I bet shane Douglas and Harley Race was a good one to play. It was actually. There seemed to be a natural tension with the card mechanics so it may be something I revisit in the future. Thanks for checking out the aciton.

Card 42 – Maple Leaf Wrestling –Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario (2022.01.09)
Bruiser Costa v. Jackie Fargo Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar had strong words for both competitors before the bell. The opening contest was much more competitive than the fans anticipated as Costa came to fight and gave Fargo all that he could handle and then some after a strong start from Fargo. Things turned however after a brawl on the floor and Fargo used a cord to choke Costa. Dollar let it go and Fargo controlled the balance of the match and put Costa away with his finishing ATOMIC DROP. Winner: Jackie Fargo. ***
George Tragos v. Barry Windham Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Another lengthy battle that went back and forth from bell to bell. Windham was able to get the upper hand during action outside the ring. Tragos showed some incredible toughness surviving a pair of SWEETWATER SUPERPLEXES with last second kicks outs that rocked the fans. The action came to a finish at ringside when Windham slammed Tragos onto the floor where he was counted out of the ring. Winner: Barry Windham by count-out ***
Tully Blanchard w/J.J. Dillon v. Val Venis Referee: Dick Woehrle; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Venis demanded this match after coming up short against Blanchard on the last Ringside episode. The action goes to the floor early and Blanchard goes shoulder first into the post. Venis lands his MONEY SHOT shortly afterwards but cannot get the win. Blanchard gets back into the match and the action goes back to the floor. Both men throw punches but when Dillon attempts to get involved, Woehrle will have none of it and calls for the disqualification. The fans are not happy with the result as Blanchard and Dillon make a retreat to the locker room. Winner: Val Venis by disqualification. * ½
Falls Count Anywhere Match – Masked Superstar v. Mike Whipwreck Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside. Masked Superstar has words for Morgan Dollar as he enters the ring and the official appears shaken up. Superstar attacks Whipwreck before Gary Michael Cappetta finishes his introduction. Whipwreck comes back using his speed to take control. The fans love his tornado DDT and swinging neckbreakers. The action finally goes outside and Superstar uses a chair to flatten Whipwreck. Whipwreck eats the post and he is busted open. Superstar slams Whipwreck through the ringside table bringing ringside to their feet. Whipwreck survives a SWINGING NECKBREAKER but a COBRA HOLD ends it. Winner: Masked Superstar. ***
Shane Douglas w/ Francine v. “Raging Bull” Manny Fernandez Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Dollar has strict instructions for both men. Douglas dominated this match from the opening bell but Fernandez provide incredibly difficult to put away kicking out after four PITTSBURGH PLUNGES before finally getting in some offensive of his own. The advantage was short lived however as Douglas bounced Fernandez’s head off the ringside table and then put Fernandez away with a BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX. Winner: Shane Douglas **
Chris Candido & “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal v. Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) Referee: Joey Marella; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside The fans were excited to see The Fantastics in action and they responded by taking control of this fast paced match. Regal just manages to kick out after a FANTASTIC CRADLE but a key tag to Candido gets him out of trouble. The action goes back and forth with both teams making tags before the action goes to the floor and Rogers bounces Candido’s head off the ringside table which is enough for Marella to call the disqualification. The Fantastics and the fans are upset but Candido & Regal are laughing as they head to the back with a controversial win. Winners: Chris Candido & Steve Regal. * ½
Texas Death Match Jim Londos v. Sandman Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Sandman attacks before Gary Michael Cappetta can finish his introductions. This was nothing short of a mugging with Sandman dominating the action. A DDT onto a chair left Londos a bloody mess. Londos managed to kick out after a pair of WHITE RUSSIAN LEG SWEEPS and a SINGAPORE CANE shot. It is another SINGAPORE CANE blow that finishes it and leaves Londos in a heap. Winner: Sandman * ½ Powers of Pain (The Barbarian & Warlord) w/Mr. Fuji v. Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside This was an absolute war from start to finish. The Powers of Pain used their size to dominate early and both Valiant Brothers were battered into a bloody mess. Only the timely distraction from Albano after a POWER HEAD BUTT. The Valiant Brothers then managed to cut off Barbarian from his corner and went to work using every trick in the book to gain the advantage. A key pin save from Warlord kept the match going after a DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE. Late in the match, the punishment taken by the Valiant Brothers took a toll and the match ended with a FLYING CLOTHESLINE to Johnny Valiant. Winners: Powers of Pain *****
Canadian Open Tag Team Title Match – Road Warriors (ch) (Animal & Hawk) w/Paul Ellering v. British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) Referee: James Beard; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Another epic battle on this card. The champions brought all their power and battered their challengers. Davey Boy Smith was cut off and the Warriors punished him including not one but two DOOMDAY DEVICES. Dynamite Kid was able to save his partner both times. The Bulldogs finally found their spot and took over on offense against Hawk. TOWER OF LONDON looked to finish it especially after Ellering could not cause a distraction but a key pin save from Animal saved his partner and kept the champions in the match. The champions were able to get a tag and momentum turned. Kid was caught with a double clothesline out of nowhere and Animal quickly made the cover of the three count. It looks as if Kid may have kicked out of the cover but the decision stands. Winner: Road Warriors ****
Canadian Heavyweight Title Match – William Muldoon (ch) v. Harley Race Referee: Morgan Dollar; Dr. Mike Lano at ringside Race tries to tell Dollar how to referee and the official is not pleased. Muldoon ties up Race in sorts of ways early on and the fans are loving it. Race manages to slow come back with punches and knees. Race this a deathjump smash and the pace picks up. Race gets sent into the corner but Race avoids the charge. Muldoon hits the corner hard and Race quickly rolls him up for a near fall. Before Muldoon can regain his feet, Race plants him with a PILEDRIVER to regain the title (Snake Eyes!). Winner and New Canadian Heavyweight Champion: Harley Race. **

Nothing beats a night of action at Maple Leaf Gardens! Just when I expected to see William Muldoon enjoy a solid run as Canadian champ, he drops the belt to Harley Race. Snake eyes will bite you every time.
British Bulldogs vs. Road Warriors was awesome. The Road Warriors take it to retain the titles, but it looks like the Bulldogs have something of a gripe so a rematch would be great. Jim Londos is as good as they come but taking on The Sandman in a Texas Death Match proved to be a mistake. Huge win for The Sandman there. A solid show from start to finish my friend.

Thanks for the comments my friend. Snake eyes was unfortunate but the finish just means that Muldoon will remain the in title hunt. Bulldogs v. Warriors was a nice first match between the two teams. Bulldogs are looking for a return match but so are the Powers of Pain. Not sure who will be in the next title match against the Warriors. Sandman just destroyed Londos to the point where I am deciding whether Londos is leaving the territory or coming back for more.

Roadies take another questionable call. Nice to see Jackie Fargo win. The Road Warriors seemed to be getting the breaks and hanging onto the gold. I am really hoping the Fargo moves up the card but there were several points in his match where I thought Costa would pull out the win. Not sure Fargo will be a main eventer in Maple Leaf Wrestling.

Tragos used his skills to get back into the match but could not get Douglas in a position to finish him before Douglas connected with gourdbuster and gained the three count. Winner: Shane Douglas * ½ Never at a loss for words, Shane Douglas and Francine are interviewed by Gordon Solie.
