Pacers crushed Knicks by 32 but could have been worse. They did the Pacers like they were the Pistons. Knicks were 22-31 from the free throw line while Pacers were 7-8. Looking at the stats it was a reminder it does not matter where the Pistons draft so much as them knowing HOW to draft. In 2020 we had the 7th pick and took Killian Hayes who is not in the NBA currently. Meanwhile we could have taken Tyrese Haliburton who went 12th the Kings. He was traded to Indy and in two full years with them he has averaged a double double with 20+ points and 10+ assists. He would have been a much better pick for us than Hayes.

Latest mock draft I saw has Detroit picking Buzelis from G League Ignite. Wouldn't be a bad pick, but if I was Detroit, I'd be listening to trade offers.

Yeah... Cause Monty Williams was the problem.

I don't know basketball like I once did when I had the Sonics (and hopefully that changes soon if Seattle and/or Las Vegas gets an expansion team,) but I do not understand the logic of firing a 2-time coach of the year winner when you still owe them $65 million and you did not even make this decision until 2 months after the season ended. Ownership seems to be the true problem here.
Clearly the team lacks in talent but I think the hiring of Trajan Langdon (who did not recommend Williams getting fired, that was ownership) as the Pistons new president of operations was a good move.

I did not like the signing of Williams to begin with. Well, at least at the extremely high price. I mean record level contract. Come on. You do that for a talented team that needs that last piece to start a dynasty. Not a young team moving up. I do think ownership should have given him at least one more season to see what he could do. That being said, there might be a reason Phoenix let him go in the first place. Hopefully this is a clean sweep and an end to the stupid deals of the past. I mean, we signed some FAs for more than they were worth for too long and were stuck with dead money for years. At least in the case the dead money does not count against the cap.
Between the joke the Pistons have become and the Tigers having no hitting, so they flounder just out of reach of contention I have to rely on my Lions and hopefully an up-trending Wings. At least NFL preseason is just a couple months away.

Meant to touch on this the other day and forgot. I know I am crazy, but I would like to see us trade back, especially if we can pick up a first round pick down the road even if we toss in one of our numerous second round picks, and take Zach Edey, the center out of Purdue. I know we need 3-point shooting, but we can get that in FA or even in 2nd round. I like the idea of Zach helping protect the rim on D and being a rebounding machine. You team him with Jalen Duren and teams can just about forget getting a rebound. Zach was good for more than one year in college and that consistency is something I like.

interestingly most places I've seen don't see Edey as a first round pick.

interestingly most places I've seen don't see Edey as a first round pick. The mocks I have seen have him in the 1st but near the end of the round. Some 15-20 range. Some a bit later. I think he does not have the outside jumper that is needed in the NBA by big men even but I do not see that being an issue. If he could shoot the 3 he would be talked about as the top pick. Rebounding and D are important but get overlooked in the modern game. The key is if he can do those without fouling and hopefully drawing fouls. As I pointed out numerous times last season the Pistons have trouble with both. Often the other team made more free throws than the Pistons took. The opponent's attempts were often twice as many or even more.

ESPN's latest mock draft still has Buzelis going fifth to Detroit. They have Edey going 15th to Miami, for what it's worth.
