Night Eleven – Bayfront Arena, St. Petersburg, FLA
Group G Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) v. Texas Hangmen (Psycho & Killer)
The Hangmen overpower Brunzell after James Beard calls for the bell. A bulldog from Killer gets a near fall (R4/P3) but Brunzell catches a break on the floor when Dr. Mike Lano gets in between the competitor and shoved into Killer. Blair tags in and immediately locks in a SLEEPER but Killer reaches the ropes to stay alive. Killer manages to absorb some offense and then counters an atomic drop to get a much needed tag. The speed of Blair gets him back on the offensive and the Bees execute a double back drop. Double toehold to Psycho and both sides tag. Killer uses his power but Blair ducks a running lariat from Killer and then executes a hooking clothesline line. KILLER DROPKICK to Killer. 1 count only (R10/P6). Blair is off the second rope with a clothesline and the Bees execute a double back drop. The Hangmen get control again and a choke with tag rope slows down Brunzell. Hangmen’s Noose does damage to Brunzell. MASKED CONFUSION! Leg drop from Killer Bee #1. Double toehold to Psycho. Beard calls for the bell and the masked Texan as submitted (R2/P4). After two rounds, the Killer Bees lead group G with 6 points followed by the British Bulldogs with 4 points. The Sheepherders are in third with 2 points and the Texas Hangmen have not gained any points at all after their two matches. Group H Miracle & Violence Connection (“Dr. Death” Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) v. Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian) w/Mr. Fuji
Dick Woehrle is the referee in charge of the action between these two powerhouse teams. Gordy and Warlord are like too bulls and Warlord scores big with a tackle the drops Gordy to the mat. Shoulder breaker from Barbarian sends the action to the floor but it is Gordy who gets the best of the brawl. Double football tackles spills Barbarian to the floor. Gordy is out in pursuit but Warlord is waiting with a chair that drops Gordy to the floor. Worhrle calls for the bell has the Power of Pain assault first Gordy and then Williams leaving both men dazed as the leave the ring to a chorus of boos. Group H Brad & Bob Armstrong v. Original Midnight Express (Randy Rose & Dennis Condrey) w/Jim Cornette
Joey Morella calls for the bell and Rose starts off and is able to connect with suplex against both his opponents early on. Brad Armstrong gets into some trouble. SUPLEX ONTO PARTNER’S KNEE. 1, 2, Bullet breaks up the cover! ROSE BOMB. 1, 2, Armstrong is in again to break it up with a knee lift. RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP to Rose. 1, 2, Cornette distracts from the apron. Bob Armstrong is in with a series of punches and chops. He locks in a sleeper but Rose makes the ropes (R11/P5). Armstrong to the top for a deathjump cross body block. Condrey is blocked. 1, 2, Cornette with a racket poke! ROSE BOMB to Bob Armstrong. 1, 2, kick out (R6/P3). Condrey to the top for his own cross body deathjump. 1, 2, kick out (R6/P4). FRONT FACE LEG SWEEP. 1, 2, ¾ (R6/P5). ROCKET LAUNCHER . . . 1, 2, SHOULDER UP! (R9/P8). Rose with a DDT. Falling forearm, another, another, another, MISSES!!! HOT TAG! Knee drop. Whip to the corner and Armstrong flies in … straight into a countering clothesline. DDT from Rose. Clothesline. Second DDT. Rose with a suplex . . . countered. HOT TAG. Series of punches . . . blocked. Drop toehold attack from Express. Condrey hooks leg for the win (R7/P7). After two rounds, standings in Group H

Night Twelve – Keil Auditorium, St. Louis
Group A Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette v. Nick Bockwinkel & Ray Stevens w/Bobby Heenan
Dick Woehrle is the referee for this battle with the team that wins guarantees themselves a spot in the knockout round and the loser will have their fate in the outcome of the next match of the night. The opening few minutes is a total stalemate with both sides making key tags and countering to perfection. Lane picks up the pace against Bockwinkel with a hair pull takedown and a flurry of karate kicks for a one count (R6/P2). Tag and ROCKET LAUNCHER. 1, Stevens is blocked, 2, Heenan cannot distract, ¾ (R7/P5). Eaton with a smash from the top. Bockwinkel is rebounded but counters with tackle. Stevens with back to back jumping knee smashes. Eye poke from Lane. Both sides are making tags. Bockwinkel counters against Eaton and hits a back suplex. Choke on the ropes. Eaton counters a charge into the corner with a double knee. Lane works the arm but Bockwinkel gets out of trouble and charges. Eaton is in but Stevens counters and connects with a double underhook suplex. Stevens controls but Eaton counters a power slams and gets the tag. Stevens counters a clothesline from Lane with one of his own. Both men are down. Lane is up first . . . Midnight Lariat. 1, 2, kick out (R4/P2). Slingshot backbreaker from Eaton for another near fall (R7/P3). Alabama Jam. Stevens rolls to his corner for the tag. Eaton is ready with stinging right hands. Eaton is flung into the corner but counters Bockwinkel’s charge with a knee. Lane is in but Bockwinkel starts to work the arm. Back suplex and Bockwinkel covers for one (R7/P3). Woehrle’s counter has definitely picked up in pace. Bockwinkel grabs a leg . . . FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Eaton is in followed by Stevens. Woehrle pushes back Stevens . . . Eaton drops an elbow onto Bockwinkel and places Lane on top of him. 1, Heenan rolls him a foreign object, 2, BLAMM!. Bockwinkel covers. 1, Stevens blocks Eaton, Cornette distracts! Stevens tosses Lane to the floor and follows him out. Lane reverses a whip and Stevens eats the post! Eaton tags in and lands a power slam and vertical suplex. A bloody Stevens counters and tags. Bocwinkel goes back and forth with Eaton. Drop toe hold and elbow to Bockwinkel from the Express. Double Goozle follows. Bockwinkel is in serious trouble. Stevens is bleeding all over. Whip to the corner, reverse, reversed again and again . . . Bockwinkel with clothesline against the corner against Lane. Stevens to the top . . . BOMBS AWAY. 1, Eaton is blocked, 2, Cornette distracts. Express with drop toehold and elbow to Stevens. Pair of stinging right hands leads to a Divorce Court from Eaton. 1, 2, Bockwinkel is blocked, 3 (R3/P5).
Group A Long Riders (“Wild” Bill Irwin & Scott “Hog” Irwin) v. Double Axe Attack (Larry Hennig & Curt Hennig)
Dick Woehrle gives both sides instructions and the Hennig press the action early on. Larry Hennig catches Bill Irwin with a double forearm hammer for a one count (R7/P4). Scott Irwin gets the tag into the action and rebounds Hennig off the ropes but is knocked to the mat with a shoulder tackle. Curt Hennig is in and controls. Bill Irwin tags in and goes move for move with Hennig. Hennig catches Irwin with a standing dropkick and covers for a near fall (R7/P5). Curt Hennig with The Axe and a clothesline in the corner. Larry Hennig is in with a double forearm hammer and body slam. Hooks the leg. The pin save is blocked . . . two count (R8/P6). Hennig tosses Irwin to the floor and follows him out. It is a mistake and Hennig eats the ring post! “Wild” Bill tags in with a sidewalk slam. Off the top with a cross body block (R6/P3) for a two count. Irwin controls but a head to the buckles to countered. Curt Hennig is in but Irwin stopes him cold with a gut wrench and clothesline in the corner. Hennig battles back and the Riders make tags to keep a fresh man in the ring. Bill Irwin with a series of gut wrenches. Irwin with an eye rake and “Hog” Irwin is in. It is all Long Riders with their sides. Hennig counters a charge into the corner with a clothesline sending Curt Hennig and Scott Irwin crashing to the mat. Hennig with The Axe and tags his farther in. Hennig controls but “Wild” Bill tags in and stops Hennig with a throat drop on the ropes. They go to the floor and Hennig slams Irwin on the ringside table and the breaks for the impact! Woehrle quickly calls for the bell and a bloody Hennig is not happy as the fans boo the disqualification finish.

Group B Chris Candido & Tom Prichard v. Jack and Jerry Brisco
Jerry Brisco takes on both Prichard and Candido before Jerry Brisco controls against Candido. Dropkick downs Candido for a two count (R6/P4). Brisco off the top with an elbow to the head. ROLLING REVERSE CRADLE. 1, 2, Prichard breaks up the cover. Jerry Brisco is in. OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL. 1, 2, Prichard with another save. Brisco slows it down with a Boston Crab and then an atomic drop. A body slam is countered and Prichard is in and takes over the action with a series of suplexes. Jack Brisco gets a defensive tag and trades moves with Prichard. Dropkick connects and Brisco control. Scorpio Death Lock does some damage but a jumping knee drop misses and Candido is back in. Snap suplex stuns Briscoe for a one count from James Beard (R7/P2). Brisco is tossed to the floor and Candido smashes Brisco with a chair. 8, 9 Brisco is back in. Candido with a top rope huracanrana. Prichard joins the attack for a Flapjack. Prichard with a slingshot suplex and Dr. Tom Bomb. Another Flapjack. Prichard with multiple elbow drops and then is joined by Candido for a neck drop on the top rope. Candido with a standing legdrop but Brisco avoids. HOT TAG! Candido gets the tag as well! Prichard gets the upper hand. Brisco counters a running back elbow and the Brisco Brothers hit a double tackle. Suplex assortment from Jack Brisco. ROLLING REVERSE CRADLE for a one count (R9/P4). Brisco controls including a pair of scorpion death locks. Brisco off the top with a cross body for a two count (R7/P5). Jerry Brisco keeps the pressure on. Body slam is countered and Candido tags in. Flapjack to Jerry Brisco. Prichard sends Brisco into the corner but a charge is countered with a knee to the chest. Double tackle from the Brisco Brothers. Jack Brisco dropkicks Prichard into the outstretched hand of Candido. Jerry Brisco tags in as well but Candido quickly tags back out. Prichard sends Brisco into the corner and crack heads. Brisco is sent to the floor and crawls back in. Dr. Tom Bomb. Candido whips Brisco into the corner and charges by Jerry Brisco backdrops Candido to the floor. With Dr. Mike Lano moving in for the close up, Candido gets the best of the brawl on the floor. Top rope hurcanrana to Jerry Brisco followed by a Flapjack. Prichard with a slingshot suplex but Brisco gets the tag. Double leg takedown from Jack Brisco followed by a ROLLING REVERSE CRADLE (R5/P7).
Group B Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers) v. Too Cool (Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor)
James Beard gets back to back assignments. Handshakes gets it started. Christopher with a sunset flip powerbomb to the floor to Fulton in the opening minute! Christopher catches Fulton with a clothesline against the buckles. HIIP HOP DROP. 1, 2, Rogers with a knee to the head to break up the cover. Fulton hooks the leg 1, 2, Taylor is blocked, 3 (R3/P3). The fans are not pleased with the finish and then announcement of the Fantastics as the winners is met with a mixed reaction. Night Thirteen - Greensboro Coliseum
Group C Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano v. Barry Windham & Blackjack Mulligan
It is back and forth after James Beard calls for the bell with plenty of brawling from both teams. Windham tries to pick up the pace against “Luscious” Johnny but Valiant catches Windham on the top of the corner and tosses him to the mat. Jimmy Valiant is in and tosses Windham to the floor. Back in the ring, SUPER ELOW. Mulligan jumps in. Wild brawl. Beard retains control. Valiant with a smash off the top . . . once, twice, three, four times! Valiant with a pair of face slams to the mat and running stomps. “Handsome” Jimmy tosses Windham to the floor. Back in the ring. SUPER ELBOW. 1, 2, pin save is blocked, kick out (R8/P6). Boot scape . . . blocked and HOT TAG. Valiant blocks Mulligan’s backdrop with a piledriver. Jimmy Valiant chokes and then Mulligan chokes as well. Big boot downs Valiant. Lariat and Valiant escapes to the floor. Mulligan is out after him but Valiant runs him into the post. Foreign object to Mulligan. BLOOD IS FLOWING. Valiants work over Mulligan. Mulligan counters Johnny Valiant’s charge to the corner with a clothesline. Windham is in. LARIAT. Albano distracts Beard. Figure four slows it down. Dropkick spills Valiant into his own corner. Jimmy Valiant with kick in the corner and atomic drop. Mulligan is back in and attacks the eyes. Valiant sends Mulligan into the ropes for a backdrop . . . piledriver counter! They go the floor for an exchange. BLACKJACK CLAW. Johnny Valiant smashes Mulligan with foreign object but Beard sees the infraction and calls for the disqualification. Group C Taylors (Chaz Taylor & Tugboat Taylor) v. James Gang (B.G. James & Kip James)
Joey Morella is in charge of the action that sees Chaz Taylor and B.G. James trade blows. Taylor takes it outside and pays the price when James whips him into the ring steps. The James Gang tag in and out working over Taylor. Twice Taylor gets very close to the HOT TAG to his father but a DDT from B.G. James plants Taylor and sets up a cross block deathjump for the three count (R4/P4). Group C Round Robin Standings: Blackjack Mulligan & Barry Windham – 8 points (5 fatigue) Valiant Brothers – 8 points (7 fatigue) James Gang – 4 points Taylors – 0 points
Group D Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine) w/Johnny Valiant v. Stan Hansen & Bruiser Brody
Beefcake is quickly overwhelmed by Brody’s assault but is able to catch Brody mounting the corner and slams him to the mat. Valentine is in but Brody quicky recovers and comes off the top with a knee for a two count (R5/P3). Hanson punishes with a Brazos Valley backbreaker and back elbow. Valentine counters out of a sleeper hold and Beefcake catches Hansen with a smash from the top. Reverse atomic drop sends Hansen to the floor and Beefcake follows. Beefcake gets the best of the brawl on the floor thanks in part to Valiant’s distraction of Hansen. They go back to the floor and this time Hansen uses Dr. Mike Lano as a foreign object tossing the photographer into his opponent. Brody is back in and goes on the attack and Beefcake takes a serious beating. Brody hits his JUMPING KNEE DROP. 1, 2, Valentine with the save. Hanson is in with a Brazos Valley backbreaker. Valentine gets the defensive tag and takes over. It is all Hammer. Chop block to Hansen. FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Hansen makes the ropes (R6/P4). FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Brody makes the save. FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Brody with the save again! Beefcake off the top with a smash. Double back ram into the corner. Hansen bails. Valentine follows but Hansen gets the best of the braw. Brody is all over Valentine. Beefcake is in but Brody counters a backdrop with a piledriver. JUMPING KNEE DROP. 1, 2, Valiant distracts. Brody with stomps. Valentine gets the tag. Beefcake and Brody go move for move. Valentine is back in. Brody with kick in the corner. One handed body slam. 1, 2, Beefcake makes the save. Hansen is in. Brazos Valley backbreaker. Kicks and elbows. LARIAT . . . three count from James Beard (R4/P9) Group D. PitBulls (Pitbull #1 and Pitbull #2) v. Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff
With first place in the group on the line, James Beard calls for the bell but not before Volkoff sings and Sheik offers up his opinions on his opponents. The Pitbulls look impressive early cutting off Volkoff but the big Russian is eventually able to get the tag. Sheik controls with suplexes on Pitbull #1 and then lands what appears to be a loaded boot from the top. Pitbull gets out of trouble when he is rebounded into a flying tackle. Pitbull #2 tags in and immediately connects with a spinning heel kick and covers Sheik for a one count (R9/P2). Super fallaway slam but Sheik is sent into his own corner. Volkoff’s attack is too slow however but he does manage to counter a charge into the corner with a backdrop that sends Pitbull #2 crashing to the floor. Volkoff follows but Pitbull is ready and Volkoff is slammed shoulder first into the ring post. Guillotine from the Pitbulls to Volkoff but the Russian manages to get the tag. Sheik’s clothesline missies and the Pitbulls combine for a drop toehold and flying elbow. Spinning heel kick from Pitbull #2. SUPER BOMB from the Pitbulls. 1, 2, Volkoff is blocked, kick out (R8/P5). Pitbull #1 takes Sheik to the floor but Sheik decides to make use of a steel chair and referee James Beard will have none of it and makes the disqualification call. Pitbull #2 quickly grabs his chain and clears his opponents out of ringside.

I just read about the passing of Del Wilkes. I will enjoy seeing how far Stars & Stripes will make it in the tournament even more now

Awesome tournament so far. Good to see surprises. Am sure the knockout rounds will have some good matchups. So looking forward to that phase now that the group winners are shaping up.
I did something like this with the b/w cards during a World Cup year (2010, maybe?). Used 24 teams with 6 group winners and 2 runners up advancing to quarterfinals.
Head 2 head was first tie breaker then compared head 2 head tokens if necessary. However, did not use the tiebreakers as most winners won straight up and the 2 wild cards established themselves nicely. Mil Mascaras and Jimmy Snuka were the only team created for the tournament who made the knockout phase. They ultimately won the cup!

Night Fourteen – Mid South Coliseum, Memphis
Group E Eddie & Doug Gilbert v. Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) James Beard was in charge of this battle between two teams with just pride on the line. The Memphis fans were more than familiar with the two sides. Doug Gilbert controls against Robert Gibson and a suplex gets a one count (R12/R3). Gilbert blasts Gibson with a foreign object… HEAT! Gibson bails and trips over Dr. Mike Lano. PILEDRIVER to a bloodied Gibson. Morton makes the save. Eddie Gilbert is in . . . foreign object. Cover. Morton saves his partner again! Elbow drop . . . misses. HOT TAG. Morton is fired up. To the top . . . tossed to the mat. Doug Gilbert is in. Foreign object to Morton. More blood is flowing and the fans are irate. Morton is able to get the tag but Gilbert overpowers. Morton is tagged back in and lands wild punches. Morton slings Doug Gilbert into the corner but Morton’s charge is countered with a backdrop. Morton is down in a heap. Superkick is on target. “Hot Stuff” is in and drops Morton across the rails on the floor. Morton just regains the ring before ten. Morton takes a beating from Gilbert and is a bloody mess as he gets crushed with a clothesline in the corner. Doug Gilbert keeps the pressure on including a suplex and a cobra clutch suplex for a big near fall (R10/P3). Another foreign object blow has the fans up and arms. Eddie Gilbert is in with a piledriver. Gilbert goes to the top . . . Morton with a superplex counter! Gibson tags in and takes over. Leg puller and punch from the Express. Morton is back in and controls including a pair of running lariats. Slingshot stomp from the Express. Gibson with big haymakers. Doug Gilbert gets the tag but Gibson keeps his momentum with a clothesline in the corner. Gibson controls but a leg puller and punch is countered and Eddie Gilbert is in. Gilbert with a running knee lift to Morton and follows with a piledriver for the three count (R3/P4).
Group E Stars & Stripes (Marcus Alexander Bagwell & Del Wilkes) v. Flying Redheads (Billy Red Lyons & Red Bastien). The winner of this one takes the top spot in the group. Handshakes and Dick Woehrle calls for the bell. Stars and Stripes strike immediately with a double shoulder tackle for a one count on Bastien (R11/P2). Wilkes follows with an atomic drop and gets a one and half count (R7/P3). STAR SPANGLED SUPLEX. 1, 2, Lyons makes the save. Head scissors but Bastien gets the counter and tags. Lyons tangles with Bagwell and Bagwell backdrops Lyons from the ring after a charge to the corner. The action goes back to the ring. YELLOWJACKET SUPLEX. 1, 2, pin save blocked, kick out (R8/P4). Bagwell with a second YELLOWJACKET SUPLEX for the win (R3/P6). Group E Round Robin Standings Stars & Stripes 12 points Flying Redheads 8 points Eddie Gilbert & Doug Gilbert 4 points Rock ‘n’ Roll Express 0 points. Group F Quebecers (Pierre Carl Oullett & Jacques Rougeau) v. Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/Paul Ellering
The Quebecers combine for an early double Hot Shot to get the upper hand against Animal but the Road Warriors powers back against Rougeau. The Warriors got to work including two double clotheslines to Rougeau. Animal hits a flying shoulder ram and jumping elbow drop. 1, 2, Oullett saves. Animal takes Rougeau to the floor but Rougeau shoves Dr. Mike Lano into Animal to get the upper hand. Oullett takes coming off the top twice with a smash and then a cross body block for a one count (R10/P2). Another smash from the top to Animal is followed by Bombe de Rougeau. Animal eats the buckle but powers out of body slam and tags. Hawk with a vertical suplex and Rougeau retreats for a tag. Oullett dominates Hawk with kicks to the face and a chinlock. Oullett misses an elbow but Hawk misses his standing dropkick. Quebecers with a Double Goozle but Hawk manages to roll to a tag. Animal with a press slam followed by a jumping elbow drop. Animal hooks the leg and Joey Morella reaches two before Oullett makes the save. POWER SLAM from Animal. 1, 2, ¾ (R8/P7). Another jumping elbow drop is on target and Hawk is back in with a vertical suplex. 1, 2, 3 (R4/P8). Group F Vachons (Butcher Vachon & Mad Dog Vachon) v. Bob Orton Sr. & Bob Orton Jr. Joey Morella gets the referee assignment for this match. The Orton family needs a definitive victory to make it the knock out round. Mad Dog Vachon control of the match is stopped by a piledriver from Bob Orton Jr. Bob Orton takes over with a falling body slam and knee smashes to the head. Orton rebounds Vachon into a back elbow and then traps him in a step over toehold. Vachon just makes the ropes (R4/P3) to keep the action going. Bob Orton Jr. keeps the momentum going but Vachon gets out of a reverse headlock and Butcher Vachon sees action for the first time. The Ortons get the advantage again and Orton Sr. sends Vachon into the ropes but Vachon blocks a backdrop with a piledriver. Orton counters a cobra clutch suplex and tags in his son. Orton with stomps and then a SUPERPLEX. 1, 2, Vachon makes the save. Press slam into a backbreaker. Three count and the Ortons have won with no fatigue and will advance to the knockout round.
