Another bad loss for the Wings. Goodbye playoffs. Maybe next year. I wonder if Stevie Y is regretting not making a bigger trade at the deadline. Maybe a defensive player or two.

Larkin is back and Wings win big game against the Islanders who are chasing us for a WC spot. Larkin scored twice. Currently we are the 2nd WC team thus the 8th seed and would face Boston. That might be best scenario for us. We have beat them a couple times this season. Our best chance to get past the first round might be playing Boston.

Dang. I checked our schedule and with 12 games left 8 are on the road. Starting with the next 5 where we play Washington (only team behind us that seems a threat to take the WC spot), Florida (really good and killed us recently) and Tampa Bay (the team ahead of us in the WC hunt). We play Washington twice down the stretch and need to beat them both times.

4/9. That is the day that likely will decide if the Wings make the playoffs or not. Granted every game for the rest of the season is pretty much a must win but that day we play Washington. A regulation win gives up 2 points and denies them points. Washington and the Islanders are the two teams we are battling to get the last wild card spot. Pittsburgh is still in the hunt but chasing the three of us.

If the Wings somehow hold on to the 2nd WC spot it looks very likely they will face the Rangers in the first round instead of the Bruins. Crap.

If the Wings can finish the season on a hot streak they might be able to catch the Rangers napping in the first round if New York takes their foot off the gas the last few games. Also, the Rangers might win the Presidents Trophy and we all know what a curse that can be come playoff time.

Blah. Lost 2-1 to Washington. Still in the playoff hunt but this one hurts.

According to ESPN our future is looking pretty good. They did a ranking of the NHL's farm systems and the Wings ranked 4th best. With some blue line guys that look like future stars plus forwards and a goalie that look to have potential things are good. About time the Wings got back to being among the top year after year again.

Wings won but Boston didn't do their job and they lost to Washington. Now the Wings need to win tomorrow and hope Washington loses.
