Another 9th inning comeback. We win the series against the mighty LA Dodgers 2-1. Nice way to go into the All Star break. Of course maybe it will kill our momentum. Who knows. I would like to see us maybe try and trade for a top hitter but even if we do not we should hopefully get Kerry Carpenter back from IL soon and he will give us a boost.

ESPN did a list ranking top 100 professional athletes since 2000. Now, any list like this will have things people, including me, do not agree with and that is fine. I had not looked at the list yet but today I peeked at 26-50. Right off I did not agree when I saw Mike Trout at 30 thinking it was a bit high. I lost interest when I saw Miguel Cabrera was listed lower at 33. Trout will not reach Miggy for career HRs or career RBIs and his career batting average is lower than Miggys. Sorry but even with my bias the fact is Miggy is better than Trout.

I checked a few sites for their grades on the Tigers draft. Most were in the A range. I think there might have been one B. I know I saw one D and it was a good laugh. They did not grade on the players the Tigers took and what kind of future they might have but graded on the fact we took HS players and not college one who could help the team this year. The odds of anyone drafted this year coming in and helping, especially in just one aspect like hitting vs pitching, are very slim. Even the best college players are not likely to be helpful till next year. Even if they do produce this year, it might not be till the very end, not for the whole second half. Sure, it would have been nice if we drafted a bat that could come in right away and give our offense a boost but that was just not going to happen. We drafted for the future which is the way to do it.

draft grades especially for baseball are a fantasy anyways as so much can happen.

ESPN and NFL Network (as well as many other sports news outlets) do these stupid rankings/countdowns every summer to keep everyone talking/arguing until football season starts. Hooleyboo.

I know speculation is just that but fun to see what people say/expect. My main point was the one was doing their grading in a weird way and really not worth taking serious.

I was looking a bit more at ESPN's Top 100 athletes since 2000 list. What is amazing is three of the top 50 were on the Tigers roster at the same time. Miggy, Verlander and Scherzer. Still a shame those guys could not win a WS.

I knew rookie Colt Keith was getting better as the season went on but did not realize how much he is tearing it up in July. For the month he has a .370 batting average and OPS of 1.267 So as the Mask would say, he is smooooooooking

The Tigers are half a game below .500 with a season run differential of -2. Meanwhile the Tampa Bay Rays are at .500 with a differential of -60. Crazy.
