By the way, last year's top pick for us and the man who was on the cover of the Lakeland Flying Tigers schedule pamphlet, Max Clark, was promoted to West Michigan Whitecaps a few days ago and he is tearing it up. He is hitting .389 in the few games he has been there and so far in the minors this year he is hitting .289 with 7 HRs and maybe best of all, 26 stolen bases. I do not see him making the roster this year but maybe next year. In 2026 for sure.

I saw Carson Kelly's name, our backup catcher, come up as a possible trade piece just yesterday. Today we traded him to Texas for a couple minor leaguers. Both in mid 20's playing in AA ball. A catcher hitting decently and a relief pitcher with decent stats this year. Who knows if they make it to the bigs but a couple pieces for a guy we do not really need is not bad. At the least we got younger as Kelly just turned 30.

I have not seen anything official yet, but it seems we traded Jack Flaherty. He was scheduled to start tonight but he did not. I would guess he got pulled due to a trade.

It looks like it might be the Yankees who will get Flaherty. I hope we get either an almost MLB ready prospect or two really good ones that could be ready next year for him. At the least I hope we don't get hosed and just give him away.

It looks like the Tigers did not make any big trades. They seem to have kept both of their starting pitchers that were talked about as possible targets. They did trade a relief pitcher for a couple long shot minor league players. Nothing big. Interesting. My guess is the offers were not good enough for them.

I was thinking the deadline today was 4 PM EST but it was 6 PM. Looks like we are shipping Flaherty to the Dodgers. Not sure what we are getting back yet.

We traded Mark Canha for a young relief pitcher, Eric Silva, from the Giants.

From LA we got Trey Sweeney, a shortstop, who was assigned to Toledo meaning he might be close to joining the Tigers. We also got Thayron Liranzo, a catcher, who we assigned to West Michigan. Both have some potential but not guys that are gonna blow anybody away. Trey is 24 and Thayron is 21 so still young and could make a jump. Fact is Flaherty was probably going to leave as a FA at the end of the season so at least we got something for him. If we were in the playoff picture we might have kept him but it looks unlikely now that we will get in. Hopefully we can get healthy and come back strong next year.

The other day I mentioned ESPN ranked Mike Trout higher than Miggy. I still don't buy it, but I will say this. I just wonder how good Trout could have been if he was on a good team but more so if he could have stayed healthy. He is out for the rest of the season once again. Just a shame. It is one thing to lose playing time due to suspensions or holding out for more money. Injuries are just a hard thing to deal with.

In a lot of ways, Mike Trout is a modern Mickey Mantle..really good but missed that level of greatness due to injuries.
Of course my main fascination with baseball this season is to see how bad the White Sox end up.
