The Bad: The Tiger's record of 13-25 is exactly the same as last year.
The Good: Last year we did not have much to be happy about. It was mostly the Miggy watch as he chased history and records. This year we have one of the best bullpens's have the lowest ERA at one point and might still have it. Overall, our pitching staff's ERA and QS is in top half if not top 1/3 of MLB. That is with some of our big arms on IR and/or battling injuries. If we get our pitchers healthy and keep them like that, we might have a top 10 or even top 5 pitching staff.
The Ugly: Our hitting. Or lack of it I should say. We are dead last in HR and RBI. Most of our guys are underperforming. That is something that should be able to be fixed with our pitching coach working with them. We might also be able to fix it by bringing in a new bat or three either from minor league system, trade or even FA although most good FA are signed, I am sure. Either way, hitting might be the easiest thing to fix. The reason our record is not better falls firmly on our hitters. If they warm up and our pitching can keep it going, we can still make the post season.

Arizona hit 7 homeruns today. The Tigers have 20 for the season. Sigh.

Ugh. We scored two runs or less for the 21st time this season. That even includes a win or two. That is 53.8% of the games so far this season. Anybody on here know how to hit a ball and got some free time on their hands?

Cabrera, at 39 years of age, went 3-4 with a walk and 2 RBIs including the walk off winner. He is now hitting .300 for the year, 31st best in the league. I think a bit of the old Miggy is returning.
If he can keep this up, and some of the other guys can get hitting, the Tigers might make a run thru the summer.

Say what you like about the Tigers at least no one can accuse them of stealing signs. Still, the future has promise thanks to a young pitching staff that is doing all they can. That is with two expected starters Mize and Manning still out with injuries. Get them healthy and back to where they should be and we have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Just need 2 or 3 bats to add to our lineup and get things rolling.

Yesterday was incredibly frustrating to watch. At least we're done playing the Yankees this year.

Yesterday was incredibly frustrating to watch. At least we're done playing the Yankees this year. It is a small thing but we got closer each game of the series. It goes without saying that this year NYY is one of if not the best team in the league. We went toe to toe with them yesterday. Not bad for a team still building. The first game was terrible but the last two felt somewhat competitive. In Game 2 it was our hitting letting us down which is standard this season. Game 3 went into extra innings so it is a moral victory. We should be getting some batting help with guys coming back from injuries including Greene expected to have some games in Toledo and if he does good I am sure he is getting the call up.

Ugh. Casey Mize is going to have Tommy John surgery. So, he is done for the year and probably won't be back to mid-season next year. It is starting to look like he won't live up to the hype. He will be just a decent mid rotation starter.

It is just being the first overall pick you kind of hope and even expect a certain level of greatness. I know I compared his numbers against Verlander's in the early stages of their careers and Mize was actually ahead of Justin in most of the important stuff and was close to him in the others. The only difference is Verlander was younger at the start of his career. Who knows, maybe he comes back from the surgery and gets back on course and does reach his potential. Having him and Skubal as a one-two combo could be great for the next 5 years or so.
