This is not Tigers related but is MLB so posting it here. I turned on TBS at work since the Rays game was on. It seems TBS cannot show it due to contracts and a local affiliate showing the game. What seems weird to me is TBS is showing NOTHING. Just the message about the game. I always thought when certain markets could not show a game, they would air something else. Reruns they have in syndication or something like that.

My dad left me a funny message. He said there was an invasion in Detroit this week of men wearing Tiger uniforms. They somehow got into Comerica Park and swept Cleveland in a four game series. But YES, we swept Cleveland. Our pitching was solid and our bats are finally starting to wake up. In fact, in the last five games all 9 starters got a hit in one game and 8 of 9 got a hit in two games. That is what we need. Everyone contributing. I just hope they can keep it rolling. Also of note, there is talk of Miggy making the All-Star team. Either as the Tigers rep or the commish might put him on due to his career. He is hitting over .300 this year and has eight games this year where he got at least 3 hits.

Only three players in all of MLB history have recorded 3000 hits, 500 homeruns and 600 doubles. Two of them will be in the All-Star game with Miggy and Pujols being added to the game.

At first, I was a bit disappointed with our trades before the trade deadline. Basically, trading a mediocre hitter for a prospect and a decent set up guy for a prospect. ESPN mentioned they had a good deal of bullpen arms but did not end up trading any of them. That got me thinking. The Tigers are still hoping to compete next year. I really think that when healthy we have a top 10 pitching staff, especially in the pen. Their issue, along with a devastated starting lineup, is lack of offense. Hopefully they can sign a couple bats in the offseason who along with our young guys getting better can fix that issue and have our offense more in the middle of MLB instead of the bottom. We need a top hitting 2nd and 3rd baseman.

Cabrera may not play next season. He is having a good year this season but not worth what he is being paid. Of course, some of what he is being paid is for past performance. Ideally, I would like to see him retire after this season as he is having a decent year. Then we use the money we save on his contract and sign a big bat or two in the offseason. However, if we know we could not sign what we need, then let him play next season assuming he does not bottom out and look bad out there. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/34348673/detroit-tigers-legend-miguel-cabrera-uncertain-play-seasonDetroit Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera for the first time on Thursday said this may be the final season in his Hall of Fame career. Cabrera had previously stated he wanted to play through the end of his contract, which runs through 2025 but is only fully guaranteed through next season. Cabrera is owed $32 million in 2023. The Tigers then have an option to buy out the remaining two years of the contract. "I've got to talk to my agent, I've got to talk to the GM, I'm got to talk to everybody [to] see what's going to be the plan for next year," Cabrera told reporters ahead of Detroit's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. "Right now we don't know. We're focused on today. We're going to go day by day and see what happens. I don't think about next year. I'm thinking about trying to finish healthy this year." The 39-year-old said he has been playing through knee pain in recent weeks and will be limited to just every other day during Detroit's six-game homestand. "You've got to understand your body," Cabrera said. "I understand my body and I understand my position now on this team. I'm OK. I'm going to keep working. Every time they give me a chance to play I'm going to go out there and do my best. That's the bottom line. That's what matters. And it's an opportunity for young guys here to get more at-bats and see what we've got for next year." Cabrera made history earlier this year, recording his 3,000th hit to become the seventh member of the 500 HR/3,000 hit club. He was selected to the All-Star team as well, his 12th selection and the first since 2016. After a stellar May, however, Cabrera's numbers have come back down to earth. He's slashing .271/.321/.336 with four home runs and 36 RBIs this season.

So, I had to work last night and missed all the Sweet Lou stuff. When I learned we won 9-1 over the Rays I told my buddy "As in traditional Tigers style, we will lose tomorrow."
Welp, that leads us to today. 0-0 for 8 innings and then Gregory Soto took the mound. What happened next was the baseball equivalent of the 2084 Lord Nexus "Re-Run from What's Happening" card. 7 RUNS GIVEN UP IN A SINGLE INNING. Thank God this didn't happen on Lou's special day. What an incredible shitty performance by Soto. It's almost admirable, LOL.

The silver lining is the last 6 runs didn't matter. We lost when he gave up the first run thanks to not being able to score. So, if he was to get lit up this was the right time. But that is the Tigers. Score way more runs than they need one day and score nothing the next. This season has been a bigger disappointment than last season.

Another positive from today is Manning in his 2nd game coming back from IR pitched a real gem. No runs, WHIP of 1 and averaged a strikeout per inning pitched against a good team. I will probably be let down but I feel if we get 2 or 3 hitters, either via trade, FA or from our own roster for next season we can be competitive thanks to a solid pitching roster.
