Another positive from today is Manning in his 2nd game coming back from IR pitched a real gem. No runs, WHIP of 1 and averaged a strikeout per inning pitched against a good team. I will probably be let down but I feel if we get 2 or 3 hitters, either via trade, FA or from our own roster for next season we can be competitive thanks to a solid pitching roster. Or from the farm system right ? |

Or from the farm system right ? I was including the farm system in the roster part but yea. It could be a guy on the main team or down in the farm system who improves enough to be a good hitter. Spencer Torkelson being one example. He started on the main roster but was demoted to Toledo (AAA). He is expected to be a good hitter for us but struggled this year. He is only 22, turns 23 later this month, so he could improve between now and the beginning of the 2023 season. That would help quite a bit. |

If Baez, Schoop and Candelario were each at .250 (TWO FIFTY!) even, we'd be way more competitive. How Avila and whoever is the hitting coach this year can keep a job I have no idea.

Avila is on the hot seat for sure. But I agree that the hitting coach, that is they even have one as it does not seem they do, should be gone. My guess is they will be at the end of the season. It might be hard to find an upgrade, even as bad as he has seemed, this time of the year.

I just came here to post that. Just saw it on ESPN web site. It is interesting they do it now. I guess the idea is to get the search started early but it is unlikely they fill the spot till at least a week after the season ends. I mean GM is different than coaches but they may want to target someone on another team's front office and I would think have to wait till after the season to talk to them.

Today's starting lineup had THREE guys with averages under .200 and seven under .250 plus we used a pinch hitter who's average is under .250 and that is why we are where we are in the standings.
