In light of the new Disney plus series, based on Marvel comics from the 70s and 80s. I though what would be some good WHAT IFS in pro wrestling history. There's many that would have changed the course of history as we know it.
Issue #1 WHAT IF...? HULK HOGAN won the AWA title?
WHAT IF...? Verne had put the AWA belt on HULK HOGAN and kept him from signing with VKM?
- Would we watching AWA today instead of WWE? - Who would VKM have picked instead to lead his national takeover? - ORNDORFFMANIA...?

Well I think eventually Hogan and Verne still would have fought over money but it's interesting. I think Barry might have been Vince's replacement for Hogan but that's mostly speculation.

I think the AWA still would have folded with Verne at the helm. Hogan at the top would have made it last another couple years, though, but I think Hogan and Verne still would have had a falling out over money.
I think Barry Windham could have been the guy, though, with the Vince McMahon marketing machine behind him. Junkyard Dog was a huge draw for Watts so he could have also taken the Hogan spot.

Maybe Slaughter as the top guy with Hogan still in the AWA? He was wildly over once he turned face and was feuding with the Sheik.

Thats an interesting thought, and they both wound up with similar gimmicks after a while. But I don't think Sarge had the muscular look VKM wanted at the time. I always heard Orndorff was the backup, but didn't have the same level of charisma. Never heard the Windham theory, but I think thats interesting.

AWESOME topic ... I think you dont see the unification by VKM of the territories BUT i think wrestling is a lot bigger today. I think you get a slow steady build and more wrestling than the cartoon it became.
My LOW fed is actually based on the idea Hogan did something else besides wrestling (even if he got a card I probably would not use him, I really didnt like Hogan lol).
I think VKM had good ideas for 80s and maybe 90s but he never kind of evolved he kept looking for the next Hogan instead of the next thing. So taking away Hogan I think might have opened a whole new world

I always thought Dan Spivey was a guy the WWF was high on, but didn't have that charisma they were looking for. Then Barry showed up & he was on the radar!
Imagine if Sting went to WWF and Hogan went to WCW! Or Road Warriors went to WWF from the AWA!

Imagine if Sting went to WWF and Hogan went to WCW! Or Road Warriors went to WWF from the AWA! Spivey was a big blonde guy who couldn't wrestle. No wonder the WWF liked him: Reminded them of Hogan! Barry Windham had WAY more talent, he was a natural in the ring, even early on! I always thought Windham should've beaten Flair around '85-'88, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. BTW, Windham was in the WWF BEFORE Spivey, with Rotundo as the U.S. Express. Spivey came into the WWF AFTER Windham left, teamed with Rotundo as the American Express. -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Spivey#World_Wrestling_Federation_(1985%E2%80%931988)Sting was well-suited for the NWA/WCW, especially with his rivalry with Flair! I'm not sure what the WWF would've done with "surfer" Sting at the time. Hogan in the WCW in the late '80s? I wonder if JCP would've lasted longer in that case? There wouldn't have been a WM 6 match against Ultimate Warrior, so maybe Warrior VS Sting at WM 6 then? But I don't see Hogan willing to job to Flair in JCP, so I don't know how they would make that match-up work. LoD in the WWF before going to the NWA/WCW? I wonder how much more Vince would've watered them down back then, it was bad enough with Rocko when they did go over. EDIT: With LoD in the WWF at the time, I wonder if DEMOLITION would have seen the light of day? Later! Todd C WTIC
