Issue #2
WHAT IF...? FLAIR was paralyzed in the plane crash instead of Johnny Valentine.
This would incredibly alter the reality we know!
- Who carries the NWA banner in the eighties, Race?
- Do they pull the trigger on David Von Erich in 81 or 82? .. and if so does he still have the tragic ending we know.
The ripples this what if would cause would be mind blowing! Butterfly affect....

Valentine didn't die in the crash
I think Race may have gotten another run and eventually Ted DiBiase would've been NWA champion in the Flair spot.

If they could have enticed him out of Memphis, I think Jerry Lawler would have been a good fit for the Flair role during the early to mid 80s.

I will say that I am far from being an expert on Memphis Wrestling but would Austin Idol work as the main heel? Maybe get Jesse Ventura as part of Jimmy Hart's stable to feature in the territory while Jerry is away. On the flip side, I think Ricky Steamboat could have worked as babyface World champion as well if his mike skills could have improved.

However, with Sam Muchnick's retirement as a promoter in '82 and Crocket starting to take over, I think Dusty would have ultimately gotten the nod to carry the belt for an extended run.

In light of the new Disney plus series, based on Marvel comics from the 70s and 80s. I though what would be some good WHAT IFS in pro wrestling history. There's many that would have changed the course of history as we know it. Issue #1 WHAT IF...? HULK HOGAN won the AWA title? WHAT IF...? Verne had put the AWA belt on HULK HOGAN and kept him from signing with VKM? - Would we watching AWA today instead of WWE? - Who would VKM have picked instead to lead his national takeover? - ORNDORFFMANIA...? I don't think Orndorff gets the main stream crossover Hogan did People LOVED Snuka but he couldn't do a coherent promo I think Slaughter could have been a solid option I heard Dusty was supposed to be an option if they didn't have Hogan. Didn't have the look but had everything else. He was still pretty jacked in 1985, what about a returning face turn for Superstar Billy Graham? He's 5 years older than Slaughter & 10 years older than Hogan but he could've gotten them through 84 til 88 or 89 when Macho Man & Ultimate Warrior could take over.

Quick note...Graham is interesting but he still likely breaks down by 86. Steroids just tore him apart.
No Flair...well that is very interesting because that affects a lot of things
Crockett doesn't have that ace that lets them take control of the NWA. Also, Flair was a big part of building up the territory to the point Crockett could use him as an ace.
I think Greg Valentine and Roddy Piper might get larger pushes without Flair around. DiBiase as well though he might have had to move to a full time NWA territory to get the belt. (I can't imagine the NWA people letting a technically non member like Watts have the belt)
Wrestling is a less fun place all around. DVE probably still passes and whether he gets a quick run or not (It's very unlikely long term), I think the NWA still eventually crashes and burns.
