Press release - Earth, January 2089
In the late 21st century corporations kept getting bigger, richer and more powerful. The ultimate example of this was when two of the largest, Apple and Amazon, merged to form Ampple. In their constant search for ways to get more money and even bigger they were looking for new streams of revenue. That lead them to form a new sport league. One that took a sport that had been around for ages and gave it a new spin. Thus, the World Wrestling League (WWL) was formed.
The concept is to have teams of wrestlers compete against each other in a format much like other sports. Initially there will be eight teams in cities around the world. Wrestlers from not just around the world but the galaxy will be drafted to these teams to compete. Each team with have a four-man roster. Each week teams will compete against each other in three one-on-one matches. The team that wins at least two of the matches will win the game. At the end of the season, the top team from each of the two conferences will meet in a one game playoff. There will be two seasons each calendar year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The two initial conferences will be North America and Europe. Expansion is expected in the future into other continents. The conferences will look like this.
North American Conference
New York Titans Los Angeles Stars Chicago Muscle Mexico City Fire
European Conference
London Red Coats Rome Empire Barcelona Conquistadors Frankfurt Knights
In the first season, teams will only face teams in their own conference. They will meet each other twice, once each in their individual cities. The season will last 6 weeks followed by the crowning of the WWL Cup winner. More info on the draft including the order and list of available wrestlers will be announced at a later date.

Great concept! I've toyed with doing something like this. Thanks. I have played with the idea on and off for years. It was when I decided getting digital cards for sets I already have would help make things easier. Being able to roll out matches in just seconds saves time. It works for me in this concept because I am more looking for results than how the match unfolds. If nothing else, it will give me a new way to use the great sets while having fun.

Press Release - Earth, February 2089
The World Wrestling League (WWL) draft is coming up. The first draft will be a four-round affair. After that the draft will be two rounds starting with the draft before the Fall 89 season. Those available in future draft will be anyone not already on a team. That will include those not previously drafted, players cut from their team and any new talent arriving in the WWL. Each team will have a salary cap currently set at $500,000 per season. Draft picks will have a set salary. 1st round picks get $100K, 2nd round picks get $90K, 3rd round picks get $80K and 4th round picks get $70K. Contracts are for two years. The first year is guaranteed and the second year is a team option. If the team does not pick it up the player becomes a free agent. Teams can sign free agents after the draft at whatever salary they both agree upon.
The draft order for the first draft was done by a random draw. Future drafts will of course be based on team records. Here is the order for the 1st and 3rd rounds. The order will be reversed for the 2nd and 4th rounds. Here is the order.
Rome London Mexico City New York Frankfurt Chicago Los Angeles Barcelona
The WWL has an amazing roster of talent for the teams to draft. From great legends like Omega and Commander Sam to fresh future stars like Spike, Bishop Hell and Bounty Hunter. Here is the list of talent the teams will be picking from. The number following their names is a rating given by one of the experts of wrestling ability, Lord Rahl.
Actagon - 31 Adam Blast - 14 Battering Ram - 35 Beast-Rider - 0 Billy Jo Boxer - 15 Bishop Hell - 37 Bounty Hunter - 38 Brute - 29 Commander Sam - 25 Comrade Terror - 36 Creeper - 7 Death Knight - (-8) Earthquake - 18 Executioner - 18 Exo-King - 38 Galactic Punisher - 40 Ghengis Khan - 12 Incredible Badger - 34 Invincible Krakan - 35 Killer Queen - 23 Lightning - 22 Lord Nexus - 25 Mad Jester - 30 Man-Mountain - 18 Massacre - 34 Massif - 39 Mesmer - 29 Mutant - 7 Omega - (-8) Pit Viper - 24 Proteus - 25 Pulsar - 8 Reptillo - 6 Renegade - 19 Reynard B Guile - (-28) Royal Overlord - (-25) Spike - 34 Splatter - 21 Star Warrior - 48 Thantos - 52 Tongsoon - 28 Trainer Jim - (-22) Vanity - 7 Wolf - 41
Who will be the #1 pick? Most experts are saying either Thantos or Star Warrior. Thantos is believed to have the better skill set to excel right away while Star Warrior is believed to have the chance to improve and end up being better in the long run. Plus, Star Warrior has the looks and more exciting style that will help sell tickets. Wolf. Galactic Punisher and Bounty Hunter are talked as possible surprise #1 picks. Make sure to tune in to ESPN Space for the first ever MML draft and see not just who goes #1 but who your favorite team drafts.

ESPN Space WWL Draft Special
Spring Season 2089 Draft
Howard Berman: I am Howard Berman for ESPN Space and with me is Alice Bundy and this is the inaugural draft for the World Wrestling League. We have a lively crowd here for the draft and there is a lot of debating of who will go first. I think Thantos will be the top pick. How about you Alice?
Alice Bundy: Thanks Howard. It is possible but do not sleep on Star Warrior. He has a lot of upside and had the family lineage thanks to his dad, Omega. Not to mention he can be a face of a franchise which helps with merchandising and selling tickets.
Howard Berman: So true. Well, it looks like Commissioner Carter is making his way to officially open the festivities and the first ever WWL draft.
The Commissioner walks toward the podium as a few fans boo. He waves for them to get louder, puts a hand to his ear and then points toward a few people in the crowd.
Commissioner Carter: Come on, you can do better than that.
The boos pick up but there is also clapping and a few cheers.
Commissioner Carter: That's better. Ampple and I welcome you to the inaugural draft for the World Wrestling League. The draft for the Spring 2089 season is officially started and the Rome Empire are on the clock.
Howard Berman: It looks like the pick is in, let's go back to the podium.
Commissioner Carter: With the first pick in the Spring 89 draft, the Rome Empire select, Thantos. The London Red Coats are now on the clock.
Alice Bundy: Good pick. Thantos is full of fire and passion to be the best. He is not the strongest of course, maybe not even the most agile but he is a nice combination of both.
Howard Berman: That and he has one of the most feared finishers, the Masterlock. It looks like the London pick is in.
Commissioner Carter: With the second pick in the Spring 89 draft, the London Red Coats select, Star Warrior. The Mexico City Fire are now on the clock.
Howard Berman: Another great pick. He brings speed, athletic ability and young euphemism. He has a lot of room to grow under the right teachers. It seems the Fire, the first of the North American teams to pick, have made their decision.
Commissioner Carter: With the third pick in the Spring 89 draft, the Mexico City Fire select, Wolf. The New York Titans are on the clock.
Alice Bundy: Wow, New York decide to go for the wild man, Wolf. He has a lot of ability but tends to have a short fuse. Hopefully that does not hurt him and the Fire.
Howard Berman: Good point. Now things start getting interesting as the picks from here on in could go anyway. But here comes the New York Titans pick.
Commissioner Carter: With the fourth pick in the Spring 89 draft, the New York Titans select, Galactic Punisher. The Frankfurt Knights are now on the clock.
Howard Berman: So, New York goes with the big powerful guy with a lot of raw talent.
Alice Bundy: It is a solid pick and cannot argue with it. Half way thru the first round and so far no surprises.
Howard Berman: I am sure we will get one before the whole draft is over. You can count on that. It seems the Knight's pick is in.
Commissioner Carter: The Frankfurt Knights with the fifth pick in the Spring 89 draft select, Exo-King. The Chicago Muscle are now on the clock.
Howard Berman: Another big powerful man. Plus, one that sort of fits their team's name. A good selection by Frankfurt.
Commissioner Carter: With the sixth pick in the Spring 89 draft, the Chicago Muscle select, Bounty Hunter. The Los Angles Stars are now on the clock.
Alice Bundy: Yet another big, powerful wrestler. We started with some skill guys and now it is the tough ones. Of course, he also fits his new team's name.
Commissioner Carter: With the seventh pick in the Spring 89 draft, the Los Angles Stars have taken, Bishop Hell. The Barcelona Conquistadors are now on the clock.
Howard Berman: We have a bit of a surprise pick here. Bishop Hell was projected by most experts to be taken in the middle of the second round.
Alice Bundy: That is true. I have a feeling he will love the LA night life. He is known to be a bit of a partier.
Howard Berman: The Barcelona pick has been a bit slow and there is a reason behind it. We just had our first surprise pick and now we have the first trade in WWL draft, and WWL history for that matter. Barcelona is trading their first-round pick (#8) to the New York Titans for the Titans third round pick this season (#20) and their first-round pick in the Fall 89 draft.
Alice Bundy: A bold move by New York. They are trying to come out of the gates hot. They will have two first round picks and a mid-second round pick for their starting line-up. However, next year they will just have one pick and that will be in the second round. As for Barcelona, this might be about saving some money this year as it has been rumored that the owner does not want to spend a lot this first season while waiting to see how the league does. They will not have long to wait to make a pick as they have the first pick in the second round.
Commissioner Carter: We have our first trade in WWL. Barcelona has traded their pick to the New York Titans. With the eighth pick in the Spring 89 draft, the New York Titans have selected, Spike. Barcelona is now on the clock.
Alice Bundy: New York going with a big hitter in Spike. Pairing him with Galactic Punisher gives them a nice one-two punch at the top of their roster. So, Howard, who do you see as still being some big names on the board?
Howard Berman: There is Massif, Invincible Krakan, Battering Ram and Comrade Terror to name just a few. Now that we have made it thru the first round, picks should come fast and furious unless there are more trades.
Commissioner Carter: With the first pick in the second round, Barcelona selects, Comrade Terror. The Los Angeles Stars are on the clock
Commissioner Carter: With the second pick in the second round, Los Angeles takes, Invincible Krakan. Chicago is now on the clock.
Alice Bundy: Again, some hard-hitting guys being taken here early in the second round. No surprises.
Commissioner Carter: With the third pick in the second round, Chicago takes Massif. Frankfurt is on the clock.
Commissioner Carter: With the fourth pick in the second round, Frankfurt takes, Massacre. New York is now on the clock.
Howard Berman: Chicago adds some more beef with Massif. Then Frankfurt makes a slightly surprising pick and goes with Massacre. Now, New York with already two big names gets to pick again.
Commissioner Carter: With the fifth pick in the second round, New York selects, Battering Ram. Mexico City is now on the clock.
Commissioner Carter: With the sixth pick in the second round, Mexico City takes, Actagon. London is back on the clock.
Commissioner Carter: With the seventh pick in the second round, London takes, Incredible Badger. Rome is now on the clock.
Commissioner Carter: With the eighth and final pick of the second round, Rome selects, Mad Jester.
Howard Berman: Well that concludes the first two rounds of the first WWL draft. Maybe a surprise or two at the end of the second round with Badger and more so Mad Jester being selected. If you wish to follow the third and fourth rounds of the draft turn over to ESPN Eleven. Otherwise, we will be posting a recap of all four rounds shortly. Alice Bundy: With the draft over, it is just a short time until the action begins. I am looking forward to an exciting first season of WWL action and we hope you are too.
