Heartland Championship Wrestling proudly presents:
June 2, 2024
Memorial Auditorium, Nashville, Tennessee
The show opens with the tune, "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour playing overhead. EPICDAVE stands in the center of the ring, waving to the cheering fans in the packed auditorium. EpicDave is accompanied by VELVET SKY, GORDON SOLIE, and BILL APTER.
EpicDave: Hey, fans! Welcome to Heartland Championship Wrestling! We are here today on the beautiful campus of Vanderbilt University for this month's HYPE show, Heartland Havoc CXXII: Cult of Personality. We have a terrific show tonight, brought to us by the superstars of Patriot Championship Wrestling and the Atlantic Wrestling Federation.
Velvet: Heartland- WHAT IS UP?!?!? I am HYPED to be here! We're gonna see one of the greatest World Championship matches that the Heartland has ever booked- it's gonna be RIC FLAIR against BARRY WINDHAM in the Main Event!
Solie: Indeed, that will be a matchup for the ages. Flair, or course, will be seconded by BOBBY 'THE BRAIN' HEENAN, representing THE HEENAN FAMILY. And as you know, Windham represents the notorious crew, WHATEVER WE WANT, under the leadership of JIMMY HART. This group has been terrorizing Pro Wrestling Mid-America without pause, and now they have their sights set on the biggest prize in the Heartland.
Apter: And let's not forget about the storied history between Flair and Windham themselves. Tonight's Main Event will be historic!
EpicDave: My friends, thank you for your insights about tonight's Main Event. It's going to be off the charts! But that's not all- we're going to have action from start to finish. We've got FIVE championships on the line, and a couple of insane grudge matches going down- and the Epic Sports Broadcasting Network is going to livestream the entire show. It's gonna be a hot night, fans- so relax, grab yourself a cold one, and enjoy the show!
Grudge Match: No Disqualification
CURT HENNIG (w/BOBBY 'THE BRAIN' HEENAN vs. TERRY FUNK (w/JIMMY HART)
The show started with the first confrontation between THE HEENAN FAMILY and WHATEVER WE WANT. Funk was itching for a fight, but Hennig outwrestled Funk and controlled the flow of the match with his speed and athleticism. In desperation, JIMMY HART took a swing at Hennig with his megaphone, but Hart misfired and instead nailed Funk! Hennig wasted no time in dropping Funk with the Hennig Plax for the pin.
WINNER: CURT HENNIG
Solie: Round number one of the Heenan Family-3W confrontation goes to the Brain. But no question, these two factions are not finished with one another!
Apter: And now we get to the first title match of the evening! 'RAVISHING' RICK RUDE is the proud holder of the Patriot Heavyweight Championship- but he is going to have his hands full tonight!
Patriot Heavyweight Championship
'RAVISHING' RICK RUDE (c) vs. 'SUPERSTAR' BILLY GRAHAM
The power of Superstar Graham was the dominant factor in this battle, as Graham overwhelmed the champion with bodyslams and bearhugs, punishing Rude's lower back. Rude battled with great determination, but Graham was relentless and forced Rude to submit to the Superstar Bearhug.
WINNER: 'SUPERSTAR' BILLY GRAHAM

Apter: Congratulations to the Superstar! Graham has now won the Patriot Heavyweight Championship for the third time!
EpicDave: Graham dominated that match. To be honest, I am surprised that Rude held on as long as he did. But Rick Rude is a determined competitor- and he will be back for his rematch with a bullet. Next up, fans- another No Disqualification Grudge Match stemming from a very intense feud. Manager GARY HART has ignited no end of hostility with his comments about the musical abilities of the most popular band in the Heartland, BAGPIPES & BODYSLAMS. And here tonight in Nashville- Music City itself- Hart's man THE GREAT MALENKO will be squaring off with 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER with pride on the line.
Grudge Match: No Disqualification
RODDY PIPER (w/PERCY PRINGLE III) vs. THE GREAT MALENKO (w/GARY HART)
Piper and Malenko continued in a deeply personal feud stemming from Gary Hart's criticism of the accordion-playing skills of Mark Henry. Piper took the fight to Malenko, biting the forehead and gouging the eyes of Malenko. Piper nearly pinned Malenko with a back suplex, but Gary Hart created a distraction to interrupt the pin count. Piper smoked Hart with a stiff right hand, then clamped Malenko into a Sleeper Hold. Piper put Malenko's lights out for the win!
WINNER: 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER
After the decision, MARK HENRY & VADER emerged to celebrate with Piper, but Henry and Vader were attack on the ring ramp. Henry and Vader took a horrific beating from the unexpected invaders, THE ROAD WARRORS! Hawk and Animal beat down Henry and Vader, then stormed to the ring to assist Malenko and Hart as the fans booed without inhibition.
Velvet: The Road Warriors!?!?? What are they doing here?
Apter: This is news to me! These guys are not under contract!
EpicDave: Contract or not, Hawk and Animal just kicked the crap out of Mark Henry and Vader. Gary Hart has upped the ante in what has already been a bitter feud. But now, fans- we take you to the Patriot Tag Team Championship!
Patriot Tag Team Championship
MARK & JAY BRISCOE (c) vs. THE BRITISH BULLDOGS
In a rematch of the Briscoes' title win, the Bulldogs were hungry to regain the belts. But the mayhem of the Briscoes was in full effect, and Dynamite Kid found himself on the receiving end of a prolonged assault. Mark Briscoe was especially effective, unleashing flurry after flurry of vicious Redneck Kung-Fu. After taking some serious damage, Dynamite was finally able to make the tag to Davey Boy. Davey Boy and Dynamite double-teamed Mark, forcing Jay into the ring to make the save. Davey Boy was able to clothesline Jay out of the ring, freeing the Bulldogs to execute a double-team face-first double suplex on Mark for the pin!
WINNERS: THE BRITISH BULLDOGS

THE BRITISH BULLDOGS REGAIN THE PATRIOT TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
EpicDave: What a clutch move by Davey Boy! The Bulldogs pulled out the victory in a very competitive match that could have turned either way- but the veteran savvy of Davey Boy Smith was the deciding factor, and once again the Bulldogs hold the gold.
Atlantic Heavyweight Championship: Two out of Three Falls
DUSTY RHODES (c) vs. BOBO BRAZIL
First Fall: Before the opening bell, Rhodes and Bobo had an angry exchange of words which escalated into a shoving match! Dusty began playing head games with Bobo, and Dusty was able to take control. Dusty punished Bobo with a pair of Bionic Elbows that left the challenger woozy. Despite the damage, Bobo was able to regain his bearing and crack Dusty with a Coco Butt for a surprise pin!
Second Fall: Now trailing one fall to none, Dusty was forced to take it up a notch. Dusty pitched Bobo out of the ring, where the two men battled it out until Dusty slammed Bobo onto the arena floor. Bobo was able to beat the ten count back to the ring, where Dusty popped Bobo with another Bionic Elbow. Before Bobo was able to recover, Dusty clamped on the Figure-Four leglock and forced Bobo to tap out!
Solie: That evens the score at one fall apiece. We're down to one final fall to determine the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship once and for all. And I cannot help but notice- the tension between these two men is growing. Despite their mutual respect, there is no question that the stakes are high and the competitive fires run deep in both these men.
Third Fall: The fall began with Bobo digging deep and resorting to an assault of hammer punches which had Dusty on the defensive. Dusty tried to rally, and both men were on the verge of complete exhaustion. Without warning, THE MOUNTIE & PAT PATTERSON appeared at ringside. Both the competitors stared at Mountie and Patterson cautiously as the match continued. When action moved to the ropes, Mountie reached through the ropes and activated his Shock Stick on Dusty! Dusty went down, forcing the referee to call for the disqualification.
WINNER (by disqualification): DUSTY RHODES

DUSTY RHODES RETAINS THE ATLANTIC HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
As Dusty lay dazed on the mat, Patterson and Mountie hit the ring and began putting the boots to Dusty. Bobo assessed the situation, and immediately came to the aid of Dusty! Bobo and Dusty joined forces to clear the ring, sending Patterson and Mountie away in frustration.
Velvet: What just happened?
EpicDave: I have no earthly idea. We saw a confrontation between Dusty and Mountie last month, but who would have believed that it would spill over into the Atlantic Heavyweight Championship match?
Solie: I am as shocked as anyone. Indeed, it takes a big man to stand up to injustice- so congratulations to Bobo Brazil for doing the right thing. Unfortunately, Bobo is officially the loser of tonight's contest, and that puts him out of contention for the championship. The injustice cuts both ways as the result of the actions of Mountie and Patterson.
EpicDave: A disappointing night for Bobo, without a doubt. All right, fans- it's time for tonight's world championship matches!
NWA World Tag Team Championship
JACK & JERRY BRISCO (c) vs. TONY GAREA & LARRY ZBYSZKO
Garea and Zbyszko were at the top of their game tonight! The challengers isolated Jack Brisco and wore him down with their double-team wizardry. Jack survived multiple pin attempts from Zbyszko, but when Garea locked Jack into the Abdominal Stretch, it looked like the champs were in trouble. Jerry hit the ring to make the save, and was finally able to get himself tagged into the match. Jerry went all out against both challengers, but when he desperately launched himself off the top rope onto Zbyszko, Zbyszko was able to roll through and score the pin on Jerry to win the titles!
WINNERS: TONY GAREA & LARRY ZBYSZKO

Apter: We have new World Tag Team Champions! Congratulations to Garea and Zbyszko- it's been a long climb- but they have finally reached the top of the mountain!
Solie: And congratulations to Jack and Jerry Brisco- they held those world titles for nearly one year! That was a tremendous championship run indeed.
EpicDave: What we have seen here tonight is tag team wrestling at its finest. Two terrific teams with great chemistry in straight-ahead competition. I'd like to think we are in for more of the same in our Main Event- but the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match is going to be as unpredictable as it gets.
Main Event: NWA World Heavyweight Championship
'THE NATURE BOY' RIC FLAIR (c) (w/BOBBY 'THE BRAIN' HEENAN) vs. BARRY WINDHAM (w/JIMMY HART)
Tension filled the air as the ringleaders of THE HEENAN FAMILY and WHATEVER WE WANT faced off under the watchful eyes of Heenan and Hart. Given the history between these two men, the match was a brutal battle. Windham took control in the early going and punished Flair with a couple of big power moves. But Flair turned the momentum by attacking the knee of Windham, in hopes of setting up the Figure-Four. Action spilled out of the ring, where Flair bashed the head of Windham onto the ring steps. Hart screamed for the disqualification, but the referee allowed the match to continue.
EpicDave: I think the referee made the right call. Let them fight!
Flair went back to work on the knee of Windham, leaving the challenger limping noticeably. Windham slumped into the corner, where Flair brutalized Windham with a flurry of vicious chops. Flair attempted to spear Windham at the turnbuckle, but Windham sidestepped the charge, sending Flair crashing into the ringpost. Flair busted open his forehead, re-opening a gash from his previous encounter with TERRY FUNK.
Solie: The face of Ric Flair has donned the crimson mask!
With Flair bleeding, Heenan took action. In a panic, Heenan grabbed a trash can and heaved it into the ring. This brought Jimmy Hart onto the ring apron, shrieking at the referee. With the referee's attention turned, it was Windham who picked up the trash can and bashed Flair over the head! Windham went for the cover, and the referee turned his attention back to the match to deliver the three count!
WINNER: BARRY WINDHAM

EpicDave: Ladies and gentlemen, history has been made here in Nashville! BARRY WINDHAM has won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship! That match was full of suspense from start to finish- and what a crazy ending! After all the great wrestling between these two outstanding competitors, it all came down to a miscalculation by BOBBY HEENAN that cost his man the match. No doubt, we will never hear the end of this from JIMMY HART and the boys from WHATEVER WE WANT. What an incredible ending to a remarkable evening of wrestling. FOUR titles changed hands here tonight, including BOTH the World championships! All right, fans- we're done here. Thanks for checking our tonight's HYPE show! Heartland Havoc CXXII: Cult of Personality has been a tremendous success, and we thank the fine folks from Vanderbilt for all their hospitality. Heartland will be back next Saturday with more exciting action. That's our show, and I AM OUTTA HERE!
