the Doug Fister trade was probably the best move made by a contender at the July trade deadline
I also like the 4 players the Mariners got in return for Mister Fister and I think it is a trade that will help the Ms too as they rebuild

Fister was definitely a good pickup. Congrats to the Tigers.

Well, it's been a hell of a regular season for the Detroit Baseball Tigers and it's comes to a glorious end tonight in an attempt to sweep the Tribe, and possibly beat out the Rangers for home field. I hear the Angels are tanking tonight's game vs. Texas, so I'm not counting on home field. But I'm still hoping for the win. The Tigers are primed for a World Series run and I can't wait for it to start. It's been a magical year so far and all signs point to the Tigers making a serious threat in the post season.
GO TIGERS!

VERY disappointing game 1 1/2 for the Tigers. Nice rule MLB- continuing the game and giving the Tigers at a big disadvantage right from the start with their lefties lineup. Different rules from the regular season to the playoffs. And you wonder by year after year fans accuse Selig of being shady. Starting a game Friday night that has to be called in the 2nd inning while the Tigers have to waste this season's best pitcher.
While it sure feels like Bud Selig is once again ready to do all he can to ensure the ratings rich Yanks make it far in the playoffs, nobody wins anything scoring only 1 run. Total disaster. Gotta give credit to the Yanks for capitalizing on the amazingly unfortunate circumstances of Selig's head-scratching rule resulting in the benching the only pitcher in baseball deserving of the MVP. If that wasn't the biggest kick to the balls Selig could have nailed the Tigers with, I don't know what is. Maybe Selig repeating this bs in game 3? Wouldn't surprise me at all.
Ok, enough bitching. Yankees killed the ball. Let's face it. They're going to be tough no matter who pitches. My rant is more about Selig than the Yanks. They can only play with what MLB lays out for them.
I'm normally a 100% optimist, believing anyone can do anything they want if they put their all into it, but I'm having a hard time this morning feeling like this series is anything but already over. Leyland clearly planned his pitching line up with the idea the Tigers would be up 1-0 after game one. Trot Sherzer out there for game 2, take the L and come back with Fister in game 3, then Verlander again in game 4. With Fister getting rushed into action and getting bombed, plan A is totally blown to bits.
My biggest issue here is the same thing I say every year. The season is too damn long. Brilliant idea asking 30,000-40,000 people to sit outside in freezing cold temperatures during the peak of flu season. The season needs to start earlier so that the playoffs can begin in August, or September at the latest. Or start mandating that all stadiums in cold weather climates build stadiums with retractable roofs. Something.

Max needs to step the f*** up today. He's certainly capable of a gem, but he's also more than capable of a disaster and he sucks on the road. Could be a long afternoon.

Very rarely am I so negative when there is so much more to go, and I'm thrilled the Tigers proved me wrong today. I really feared we'd be staring down the barrel of 0-2 after today's game. Instead, it's 1-1 and headed to Motown. Damn fine time to be a fan in the D!
