Card 03 – Cleveland, OH – The Arena, September 20, 2013
World Wrestling Legends Title Tournament – Quarterfinals
The show opens with an official address by Commissioner Charlie Cox who warns Sabu and Rob Van Dam that If either one of them decides to interfere in each other’s tournament bouts tonight then they will both be eliminated from the tournament. If they want to get at each other so bad they can go out and win their first round matches to do it. Frank Gotch v. Sabu Huge contrast in styles in the opening contest of the night. Gotch counters Sabu’s opening stomps with a cross face and arm bar that forces Sabu to the floor. Sabu drags Gotch to the outside and sends him into the ring post shoulder first. The referee calls for the disqualification and Gotch is onto the next round. Time: 0:19 dud
Jushin Liger v. Rob Van Dam Both men receive flowers as part of a Puroresu ceremony prior to the bell. The story in this one was Van Dam throwing everything he had at his opponent and Liger finding a way to kick out each time at the last second. Liger had very limited offense in this but did manage to trade dives to ringside in a pair of great looking highspots. In the end, a FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH ended it but not before Liger’s pin total reached 9. Exciting action from start to finish. Time: 3:32 *** ½
Ed Strangler Lewis v. Buddy Rogers w/Elegant Eddie Fyne Rogers struts and the crowd wants to tear him apart. This one starts out at a quick pace with a series of Irish whip reversals. Rogers goes into the corner hard but catches Lewis with an elbow to the chin as the Strangler charges in. The Nature Boy then goes for the win with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and this one is over before it started. Huge heat for Rogers as he advances to the next round. Time: 0:27. Dud
Kevin Steen v. Tracey Smothers The crowd was split during the introductions with many of the younger fans cheering for Smothers while others got behind Steen as the underdog. Steen and Smother trades moves for some time without either man being able to gain any advantage. Steen used a power bomb to set up a PACKAGE PILEDRIVER but Smothers kicked out of the cover. Later Steen was nearly countered out after Smothers ran him into the ring steps before he made a comeback and put away Steen with his third PACKAGE PILEDRIVER of the bout. Time 4:21** ½
Bob Orton Sr. & Iron Mike DiBiase appear on the Hot Seat with Bill Apter and are confronted by Mad Dog & Butcher Vachon. Butcher grabs Bill Apter but DiBiase decks him starting a wild brawl. Security is called in to break the two teams apart.
World Wrestling Legends Title Tournament – Semi-Finals
Rob Van Dam v. Frank Gotch Handshake gets the action underway. Van Dam was able to frustrate Gotch early on with his high flying, high impact offense. Gotch was forced to regroup at ringside several times but there was no escaping Van Dam. Gotch managed to kick out after a FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH before he was able to finally ground Van Dam. Suddenly we had a match. Van Dam survived a GOTCH TOE HOLD. The momentum went back and forth as the action spilled in and out of the ring. A series of Iowa backdrops softened Van Dam up and then Gotch did the real damage with a rolling knee bar at ringside. The fans may not have liked it but the move worked. Van Dam grabbed the ropes to break out of GOTCH TOE HOLD but Gotch cinched the hold back in again and that was it. Time: 3:12.*** ½
Buddy Rogers w/Elegant Eddie Fyne v. Kevin Steen The Nature Boy drew great heat as he made his way to the ring. The fans were clearly behind Steen as the underdog now but it was in vain as Rogers quickly took over the bout and picked up the submission win with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. Time: 0:19 dud
Mike Quackenbush, Johnny Saint & Nigel McGuinness v. Austin Aries, Trent Acid & Brodie Lee The action was tightly contested from the outset of this one. McGuinness gets cut off early on and later in the match Acid takes a beating nearly getting counted out of the ring after a Quackenbush dive to the floor that rocks the fans. McGuinness gets Lee away from his corner and tags in Saint who gets the shocking submission with a THREE IN ONE. Time 3:52. **
World Wrestling Legends Title Tournament – Finals
Frank Gotch v. Buddy Rogers w/Eddie Fyne Rogers has been in fire so far in the tournament and looked to the fresher of the competitors during the introductions. Rogers smashes Gotch’s leg at ringside with a chair drawing huge heat and then attempts to capitalize with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. Gotch is able to reach the ropes for the break but the Nature Boy goes back to the hold again. Drawing on the insane crowd support, Gotch again drags himself to the ropes. Gotch is in trouble and knows he has to get the match to the mat to get back into things and he does just that with a pair of crossface and armbars and a guillotine choke. Rogers bails and Gotch then makes uses of the chair on the Nature Boy’s leg. The crowd loves it. Back inside the ring, Gotch is in control and locks in a GOTCH TOE HOLD. Fyne attempts to cause a distraction but Gotch is too focused on punishing Rogers who has no choice but to submit. Your first WWL Champion is Frank Gotch! Time: 1:22 *** ½

I enjoyed the WWL Tournament and RVD had a good run, but seeing Frank Gotch win it all is really solid stuff...

Great card Booker
Really thought Rogers was gonna pull it out but it was not to be.
Gotch being the first champ is pretty cool.

I picked Buddy Rogers and he almost pulled it off but congrats to Frank Gotch. He was the first world champion in my fed as well. RVD vs. Liger, even with RVD mostly on offense, sounded like it was off the charts. Great show Bookerbill.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Having two of the key cards from the original set reach the finals really showcases the strength of that set and Gotch v. Rogers always produces some classic encounters. It should be fun playing out their battle over the title . . . I would just like to say how cool it is that my fed gets pushed to the bottom of the page so quickly. Lots of action to choose from on the board which means everyone has their dice rolling. Excellent! . . . What is up with the Strangler? He cannot seem to beat anyone near the top of the card. I am almost ready to put him at the top of the list when it comes to rotate out competitors. I really expected him to give Rogers more of a fight . . . Up Next, we World Wrestling Legends heads to Civic Arena in Pittsburgh for the WWL Tag Team Title Tournament featuring the following bouts:
• Armstrongs v. Nigel McGuinness, & Johnny Saint • Vachons v. Austin Aries & Brodie Lee • Midnight Express v. Hillbillies • Iron Mike DiBiase & Bob Orton Sr. v. PG 13 • Tournament Semi Finals • Tournament Finals • In a highly anticipated singles match, Rob Van Dam goes one on one with Sabu
I am picking the Express to win the belts (on paper the easily most dominate team in the fed) with McGuinness and Saint as the dark horse pick.

I agree the Midnight Express seem to be the odds on favorites.....but I am going under dog and pick Aries/Lee.
The card in Pittsburgh sounds like it will be a good one.
I agree on how fast the feds fall down the list, a lot of good feds going right now. That only shows how big Filsinger Games is getting.

The obvious pick is the Midnight Express so my underdog will be PG-13.

I'll take the Midnight Express as well and will go with Dibiase & Orton, Sr. for my dark horse pick. I have a good feeling about that team.

Thank you for everyone who took the time to make a prediction….
Card 04 – Pittsburgh – Civic Arena
World Wrestling Legends Tag Title Tournament – Quarterfinals
Nigel McGuinness & Johnny Saint v. Brad Armstrong & Bob Armstrong Handshakes all around to get this one going. Great defensive wrestling from all four competitors. The Armstrongs always seem to have the advantage but only collect one pin attempt. Midway through the match McGuinness nearly earns a submission over Brad Armstrong with a LONDON DUNGEON. With time running down, the action heats up when McGuinness hot tags in against Armstrong. Back to back corner-to-corner forearm strikes sets up a LONDON DUNGEON. Bob Armstrong jumps in for the save and the time limit expires. Both teams are out of the tournament: Handshakes end the action and the fans give both teams a solid ovation for their efforts. Time: 5:00 *** ½
Mad Dog Vachon & Butcher Vachon v. Austin Ares & Brodie Lee Butcher Vachon jumps Lee before the bell and the bout just carries on from there. Some real hard hitting action in this one as you would expect from these two teams. Lee does colour after a wild brawl on the floor against Mad Dog Vachon. Aries looks fantastic in the ring and Mad Dog carries the action for his team. The end comes with Mad Dog and Lee tearing up the ringside area as the time limit expires in the second straight match. The entire top half the draw is eliminated. Time: 5:00 ****
Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette v. Hillbillies (Cousin Luke & Hillbilly Jim) The fans are all over Cornette especially when a racket shot to the back of Hillbilly Jim stops the fan favourite’s early momentum. The Express struggle with Jim’s and Luke’s power early on but their double teaming turns the match in their favour. A Flapjack stuns Luke and allows Lane to hit a SUPERKICK for the win. Time: 4:24. **
Bob Orton Sr. & Iron Mike DiBiase v. PG -13 (JC Ice & Wolfe D) w/Eddie Gilbert It does not look like PG 13 would last very long in this one as Iron Mike DiBiase picked up a near fall in the opening minutes against Wolfie D with a TOP ROPE KNEE DROP. JC ice would need to save his partner two more times from being pinned before this one was over. DiBiase & Orton really dominated most of the action but in the end it was PG 13 who pulled off the upset when DiBiase was disqualified for refusing to stop brawling on the floor against JC Ice. Time: 4:29. ** ½ World Wrestling Legends Champion Frank Gotch is interviewed on the Hot Seat with Bill Apter. When confronted about using a chair last week in the tournament finals Gotch says he was just giving Rogers a taste of his own medicine and anytime Rogers wants some more he knows where to find him. Commissioner Charlie Cox comes out to address the fans and tells us that it appears that we are two matches short tonight. Cox tells us he likes to give the fans what they want and he thinks that the fans want some more action from tonight’s opening bout. Cox then calls out Bob Armstrong and Johnny Saint for a singles match.
Johnny Saint v. Bob Armstrong The fans are excited for an impromptu match. Handshake starts things off. Great counter wrestling early on in this one. Armstrong uses some roughhousing at ringside to gain the upper hand but loses some of the crowd support along the way. Three times Armstrong locks in a SLEEPER but Saint refuses to go down. Armstrong’s slight power advantage gives him the edge but Saint catches Armstrong with the JOHNNY SAINT SPECIAL for the win after Armstrong seemed to be in total control with a series of karate chops. Time: 3:19. ***
Brodie Lee comes to the ring with is head bandaged and grabs the mic from Gary Michael Cappetta telling the fans that if we are making matches up on the spot than he wants some more of Vachon. Commissioner Cox comes out and asks the fans if they want the match and receives a huge pop in response. Cox makes the match and calls out Mad Dog Vachon.
Brodie Lee v. Mad Dog Vachon Leave your textbook of holds and counters at home for this one. Nothing but a fight from start to finish as both men tore into each other. Lee backdrops Vachon to the floor and spills the fight to ringside. The match goes back into the ring only to flow to the floor again seconds later. Lee cracks Vachon across the back with a chair shot and earns a disqualification. Suddenly Butcher Vachon is at ringside and joins his brother for an attack on Lee. It is a double team beat down. Lee escapes to the ring but the Vachons do not let up and the finish the attack spike Piledriver that lays out Lee in the middle of the ring. Time 0:47 **
Rob Van Dam v. Sabu Van Dam has the fans behind him as he comes to ringside and carries that momentum into the match with Sabu. It is all Van Dam from the opening bell and he quickly ends it with a FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH. Sabu has no offense at all. Time: 0:24 dud
PG -13 (JC Ice & Wolfe D) w/Eddie Gilbert v. Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette This was a complete miss match on paper with the Express the highly favoured team to bring home the Tag Team Titles. Eaton and Lane dominated JC Ice from the opening bell not allowing Ice to tag out. Lane nearly took the win with a SUPERKICK and the Express followed with a VEG-O-MATIC on Ice. Wolfie D jumped into the action starting a wild brawl which included Eddie Gilbert and Jim Cornette’s tennis racket. The referee could not restore order and disqualified both teams. The fans are stunned and Cornette looks like he might cry. Commissioner Cox speaks with the referee and then Gary Michael Cappette who announces the double disqualification and the fans are not pleased. Time: 1:22
