The History of Joint Promotions

'Been playing some of my "career mode/replay" type projects, and have been having a blast, thought I'd share a bit (if you go back to the first few posts of this thread, you'll see my explanation of replay mode, plus examples of it with Omega's career mode as well as others).

Some good feud possibilities have cropped up in each of these replays, with some fun interpromotional matches as well. Let's get to the action!

Omega Career Replay:  8 GWF Title Reigns, 171 total defenses.

*Omega b. Renegade, Cosmic War Dance (**). Renegade did manage to mount a little offense at first, but once Omega took control, that was all she wrote!
*Omega b. Adam Cole, Tomahawk Thrust (**). In one of two interpromotional bouts in this batch, Omega took down Adam Cole Bey Bay in relatively short order, putting him on "Dream Street" with the Tomahawk Thrust!
*Godsend b. Omega, Speak of the Devil (**1/2). In a match that is just timeless, Godsend schemes his way to victory by cutting corners, and taking down his arch rival! This feud never ends!
*Omega b. Paul Orndorff, Cosmic War Dance (**3/4). The best bout of these four, which sees Orndorff put a hurting on the face of the GWF to start things off! Omega did rally, and crushed Orndorff coming off the ropes to finish the bout!


Jack Brisco Career Replay:   2 WWA Title Reigns, 37 total defenses.

*The Great Malenko b. Jack Brisco, Russian Sickle (**1/2). Impressive win, as Malenko locks on the 'Sickle and finishes off Brisco without too much trouble. This match left the crowd in a tizzy, and there will definitely be a rematch (Malenko picks up a St. Louis Title defense).
*Jack Brisco b. Austin Idol, lateral guillotine (**1/4). Brisco bounces back with a nice win over the always challenging Idol!
*Jack Brisco b. Harley Race, figure four (***1/4). Best match of the day, with these perennial rivals going toe to toe in a great contest of wrestling skill! Looked like Race was going to win it, but Brisco reversed it late, and slapped on the figure four for the win!


Max Shield (reimagined a bit in the Best of COTG set...which puts him in my bootleg fed!) Career Replay:   2 AAW Title Reigns, 30 Title Defenses.

*Clifford Hauteur b. Max Shield, Control-Alt-Delete (**). Bit of an upset to start off this batch of Sheild matches! Although, Hauteur (GWFZ card) has proven very capable of pulling off upsets in the past! This feud has been ignited! (Hauteur picks up an AAW International Title defense)
*Buddy Landell (legends bootleg) b. Max Shield, figure four (**). Another tough loss for Shield, to the always conniving Landell! Landell has been in a lot of WWA-AAW matches over the years, and while losing more than he's won, has been a tough out. There will no doubt be a rematch, as Landell clearly had his hands on the ropes for leverage!
*Max Shield b. Homicide, Omicron Force (**1/2). Fun bout, against one of the great Steve Minskoff (at least I think!) creations in Homicide! Match was really picking up steam when Shield abruptly ended it with the Omicron Force! Homicide was left to count stars!

Good day of fun matches, in 3 different career mode replays! I do so enjoy these projects, have dozens and dozens of them going with my favorite wrestlers. And who knows, maybe this will inspire me to post more than a few times a year!  Thanks for reading along folks!

Looks like all three champions hit some kind of rough patch during this installment... Particularly enjoyed the brutal encounter between Jack Brisco and the Great Malenko... Looking forward to the rematch and hoping that Jack (my favorite TnT HoF wrestler) can even the score.

Still one of my favorite projects on the boards, my friend... An innovative way to play and post... Keep the good times rolling!

Max Shield Career Replay: 2 AAW World Title Reigns, 32 Title Defenses.

*Max Shield b. Pelvis Pressley (from the 80's Mania sets....Honkey Tonk Man tribute), Omicron Force (**1/2). Fun match. Shield came out like a house on fire, but Pressley managed to get in a little offense, and had Shield reeling! But the champ managed to regain the upper hand and put Pressley down before he could get to his dreaded guitar!

*Max Shield b. Buddy Landell, Omicron Force (***1/2). Very fun return bout, stemming from Landell's win a few days ago! Landell seems to match up well with Shield, and had the champ in trouble once again, before Shield strung together a series of moves and put Landell away. The fans went home happy as Landell landed with a loud THUD after Shield's final Omicron Force!


Ron Garvin Career Replay: 0 St. Louis Title Reigns, 0 Title Defenses (at least I think...need to double check my records! Also, in this project, I don't count a wrestler as having a title reign until he's picked up at least one defense.).

Ron Garvin begins his St. Louis Title replay (the St. Louis Title is the secondary title for my legends fed, the WWA, and is defended in...um...St. Louis. )!  I should also mention both opponents were inspired by this week's Uncharted Territory Podcast (check it out fans!)!

*Ron Garvin DQ Dirty White Boy (**). Match kept spilling out of the ring, and disintegrated into a Pier 6 brawl in a hurry! DWB was finally given the hook for excessive brawling!

*Ron Garvin DQ Bob Orton, Jr. (**1/4). Another match that ended in a brawl! Garvin seems to bring that out in his opponents, at least so far! Good heat between the two of these guys, Garvin had a little red across his forehead in this short but intense brawl!

Well, "Rugged" Ronnie didn't fare too well, as he wasn't able to pick up any defenses for the St. Louis belt (I only count clean wins as title defenses in this project!). But...he did pick up two feuding opponents, and rest assured, there will be rematches!

Okay, guess this falls in the category of New Year's Resolutions, but in any event, am going to try and post at least something to my fed thread more regularly.

And as I just stink at posting in general, thought doing a Match of the Week would be relatively simple, and get me started.

So, each week (well...that's my intention at least!! ), I'll post the best match from the week prior, giving a little context to it, from my feds in Joint Promotions. I'm still focused on doing the World Title Tours for my 3 main feds, those being the GWF (official COTG wrestlers, all eras), the WWA (my Legends fed, and I do include bootlegs in this fed), and AAW (my bootleg fed, which includes bootlegs, all of the GWFZ, and reimagined COTG wrestlers). But, my Match of the Week won't necessarily be a World Title match, as I do run (very) small undercards for each World Title stop.

And this week, my MOTW focuses on that very thing...the undercard! So let's get to it, with this week's bout!

THE MATCH OF THE WEEK

AAW International Title: Akuma the Ninja (c) vs. The Champ. What a fun match! This match was on the undercard of the AAW World Title rematch between World Champ Jet Set Strutter (a Flair tribute) and Jake Cage (Dale Blomquist's tribute to Stone Cold Steve Austin). The International Title is the secondary belt in my AAW, but I have changed my philosophy for secondary titles in general, in that they aren't just midcard titles, but important titles in their own right (like the Missouri State Title was for St. Louis).

Akuma came into this bout having just won the belt from "Irish" Pat Flanagan (my tribute to Pat O'Connor in the GWFZ sets). He's won the International Title before, but hasn't been able to hold it for a real long reign yet, and as first up for him was The Champ (John Cena tribute from the GWFZ sets), I wasn't counting on it being a long reign again.

But this bout was just great, and Akuma used every devious trick in his arsenal to prevail with a NINJA AMBUSH for his 1st defense of the title (****3/4)! The Champ was hurt early in this contest with Akuma's dreaded Ninja Powder, which he threw in the Champ's eyes not once, but twice, blinding the challenger! The Champ continued to fight gamely though, and had Akuma hurt late in this match, only to see Akuma regain control and finish off the Champ with the NINJA AMBUSH! Great bout, and there will surely be a rematch on a later AAW card!

And, by the by, Jet Set Strutter did retain his AAW World Heavyweight Title by finishing off Cage with his 6-FIGURE LEGLOCK for his 7th defense, so there's a little bonus coverage for you!

THE MATCH OF THE WEEK

GWF World Heavyweight Championship: Godsend (c) vs. Endgame. Godsend has had yet another great title reign, this time with 13 title defenses of the GWF World Title! Historically, he has owned Endgame in singles competition, and he was understandably cocky heading into this bout, as he has dominated the GWF's silver stalwart for many years! And yet, tonight, Endgame was not to be denied, as he rallied in the latter part of this contest to defeat Godsend with the ULTIMA LEAP, capturing the GWF World Heavyweight Title once more!

It really did look like Godsend was going to dispatch Endgame yet again, much to the chagrin of the GWF faithful. Endgame started like a house-on-fire, but Godsend is a notoriously slow starter (with apologies to Jerry Lawler! ), and he changed the course of this match with a well-timed low blow. It looked like that took the starch out of Endgame, but this time was different. Endgame survived Godsend's underhanded tactics, regained control of the bout, and dethroned him with the 'LEAP! Just a great roller coaster of a bout (***3/4), that showcased this game at its finest, with several emotional ups and downs!

THE MATCH OF THE WEEK

AAW World Heavyweight Championship: Rip the Bruiser (c) vs. Dante Giordano.  I'd mentioned on the Uncharted Territory Podcast (shameless plug! ) that Rip the Bruiser (a Dick the Bruiser tribute character created by Dale Blomquist some years ago) had just defeated my Bruno-tribute character Dante Giordano for the AAW strap (the AAW, just to remind folks, is my fictional bootleg fed). Initially, I wasn't going to rerun that, as the heat wasn't all that great between them. But, as they are 2 of my faves in the bootleg world (well, but of course...I made one of them! ), I decided to give it a go. That, and I wanted to see if Rip was going to be for real, as this is his first time holding the AAW World Title (he has been a decorated World Tag Champion, with Black & Blue Bob Hagar, before).

This match didn't disappoint, and in fact, Rip the Bruiser b. Dante Giordano with his BRUISER BASH to retain the AAW crown (****1/4). This was a fun, old-school brawl, with Rip playing the heel in this one (he makes a great tweener), and Dante the fan favorite (which, as he's a Bruno-type, he always is!). It almost went the time limit, but in the end, Bruiser brought his A-game and put Dante away with the 'BASH (which I envision as a DTB-style knee drop...not entirely sure what Dale thought of it as). For Rip, he solidifies his title win with a victory over one of the AAW's best, getting a little rub from the win, and maybe winning over a few fans while he was at it.

Generally speaking, I appreciate all styles of wrestling. But, when a good old-fashioned brawl comes to life on my tabletop, well, there's not much better. All hail the champ, Rip the Bruiser! And up next for him will be a showdown with one of AAW's most notorious heels, the man with the name so nice they named him twice..."Natural Man" Bobby Roberts (Roberts won a contender's match over Irish Pat Flanagan).
