The Dodgers announced the top of their batting order for the coming season. The first three will be Mookie Betts (8th in batting average, tied for 7th in HRs, tied for 6th in RBIs and 6th in OPS last year), Freddie Freeman (3rd in batting average, only tied for 30th in HRs, 15th in RBI and 7th in OPS) and finally Shohei Ohtani (10th in batting average, 4th in HRs, only tied for 31st in RBIs and 1st in OPS). Maybe not Murder's Row but one damn fine top of the lineup. Who knows if the Dodgers win the WS but at the very least they should score a lot of runs and be fun to watch.

I heard on the radio that Riley Greene put on 10 pounds of muscle in the off-season. Obviously, this means a pennant in in our near future! LOL.
Gonna be a long two months. I'm not a big Pistons or Wings guy (pull for them but don't watch the games) and Michigan's basketball team is a joke. What time does pickleball come on?

We signed infielder Gio Urshela to a one-year contract at $1.5 million. I like this signing. It is a low cost, well for MLB anyways, and he has a good career batting average and hit good last year. Not a lot of pop in his bat but that is ok. The main thing is he has flexibility of where he can play. Seems most infield positions and maybe even in the outfield in a pinch. Solid.

The worst move the Tigers have done this decade, and in a long time, is signing Javier Baez. He is like an anchor holding us back from being better than we could be. We are paying him over $20 million a year for sub par play. This year is only half way thru his contract too. I hope we can find some sucker that is willing to trade a couple prospects for him and take him off our payroll. I am no fan of Joey Wentz but at least he has value as a relief pitcher.

I'm hoping that spring training is a look into the regular season. I know it is not but a guy can hope. Right now the Tigers are in 2nd in the Grapefruit league only 2.5 behind 1st place Baltimore. I will be happy if we end the regular season over .500 while we are over .600 in spring training.

What a game for young Eddys Leonard. He played 3 of the 4 infield positions today (2B, SS, 3B) and ended up a double short of hitting for the cycle. He is 23 and based on what he did for us in Toledo last year after we traded for him, his spring so far and his ability to play different positions he might make the roster or at least get called up sometime this year.

Tigers must like their staring pitching depth. They optioned Matt Manning to Toledo. I thought he would make the opening day roster as a mid to back end starter.

Well, it wasn't pretty, at least from a hitting perspective, but a win is a win. We start 2024 at 1-0. Better than last year when we also started on the road and in a shutout, but we were on the losing end. Plus, this was a division game.

2-0 and so far our bullpen has been dominating. They are continuing the greatness they set last year. Today they had to go 6 2/3 between 5 pitchers but they gave up 3 hits, 3 walks with 5 strikeouts (1 from each relief pitcher) and most important no runs. That was after off season free agent signing Kenta Maeda got hammered for 6 runs on 7 hits (3 were homeruns) in 3 1/3 innings. The Tigers said part of the reason they signed him was to help the young pitchers. If he does that I guess I can put up with bad outings like this but hopefully not too many. I mean he needs to go 5-6 innings so as not to wear out our bullpen.
