But, I mean, Sonya Deville carries a rainbow hanky. Barry Horowitz used to wrestle with a Star of David on his trunks. Sami Zayn has had Islamic/Syrian imagery all over his gear. Mustafa Ali constantly battled suggestions that he play an anti-American Muslim heel because he wanted to either be a positive Muslim role model or at least be a heel on his own terms and not because of his ethnicity and religion. People have a right to express their identities at least as long as it's not one that infringes on other people's (i.e., wearing a swastika, unless maybe you're a Hindu and even then it's probably best left avoided).

I get ALL of that and I would have NO problem if a character wore a shirt or hanky that identifies them as a member of a certain group. I'm just tired of this 'discussion', and thought I was out of it until bear805 'tag'ged me back in. My daughter is a lesbian, married to a woman, an RN, a wonderful human being and terrific mother but I never felt the need to broadcast it, because that's her personal business. Love will triumph over hate every time, I truly believe that. So, try to know someone before you decide to crucify them. I'm out, so please don't 'tag' me back in. |

I will chime in to say that sometimes people can be dismissive, Intolerant and even prejudice unintentionally. Most of the time it comes from a place of misunderstanding which can in turn be misunderstood. This what I think happened here. I believe from what I've seen is that everyone in this thread is a good person and is also passionate about the things they care about. We are all people with complicated lives and different experiences. But ultimately we are all human. Lets all remember that and all try to better understand each other. Because hate is not defeated by violence but through understanding.
