From an epic, all-time tag main event to yet another, this time a singles for the Galaxian strap, 2 out of 3 falls between 2 legends. Keller coming up short is a bummer, but it is Omega of Cetus after all. Other than probably Moroheus, who during the EC years could consistently keep up with the 'old man'? Very few I'd wager.
Caelum, Mangus, Keller and 2079 Sam are close but just a tiny step below the 2 giants of the GWF durinf this era
Great stuff. Love me some pre-2087 GWF action.

TTX I know you were pulling for Keller. It was a shock to see him go down so quickly in the first fall, but the way he bounced back, I thought he had a great shot at retaining. They're pretty evenly matched, honestly and Keller's 4(1) pin rating usually gets him out of some tough scrapes. In the end he had 5 tokens to Omega's 4 and Omega never hit another finisher after that first one either. Hechilles is a great card, but unfortunately he's never been able to gain much steam in singles competition. Now that he holds the tag titles it'll be interesting to see what he can do in the F-Cup. I almost didn't include him, but he's still ranked pretty highly. Thanks for reading! Ive been running a 2 out of 3 falls series between Nexus and Warrior for the No.1 Contenders spot and Ill tell ya, Nexus has looked better than Warrior overall in their meetings so far, but SW has managed tp dig way down and keep himself in it. Must run in the family I guess. Lol

Hechilles is easily the best character from Mike M's EC set. So much so i wish Tom would of made him an official character. I think Mike was trying to error on the side of caution with stats and so Hechilles ends up being a guy thats full of promise, but in practice always seems to come up just short.
I plan on possibly 'resurrecting' his career in the ESW to see if he cant make some sort of a mark in my continuity.

I've always had decent luck with Hechilles when I play him? I also have a bootleg version of him somewhere, I think Javy Z. did one long ago, pretty similar stats, but different. Man, do I really need to crack out a few cards just for old times sake! haha.

GWF Classics #87: Road to CLIMAX 06.30.2080 from Eureka Asteroid Arena, Eureka Asteroid, Mars
-We are on the road to CLIMAX! Our second annual Filsinger Cup winner will be decided with a round robin tournament between two blocks of 4 wrestlers each. With Omega unseating K.O. Keller, we now have all 8 men named. Will Keller secure a shot for the title by winning 2 straight F-Cups? And even if he doesnβt, will he be granted a rematch down the road?
-The Windriders are back! Rama is off the shelf after being injured by Blood and Jammer and itβs been announced that our main event will be a POW Rules match between the Windriders and Defiance! Will Rama avenge his injury further after Tano scored a big singles victory against Blood? Rumor has it Blood is still steamed as his loss to Tano may have cost him a spot in the F-Cup tournament! This one will be a wild hate filled brawl
- Filsinger Cup Block A - Commander Sam vs. Hechilles Commander Sam defeated Hechilles with SAM'S ATOMIC DROP in 5:38 Match Rating: 2.75 Match Notes: Commander Sam made it to the finals of last year's first ever F-Cup before losing to his former mentor and partner, K.O. Keller.
Hechilles, on the other hand, finished in the basement of the tournament.
Hechilles went big early, even hitting his patented Russian leg sweep, but Sam rolled out to get his bearings back and when Hechilles came out, the old-school brawler took advantage.
It was short-lived as Sam mounted the top, but Hechilles tossed him down and hit a diving reverse elbow of his own. Hechilles looked to have it after a couple more big moves, but Sam came back and worked a chin lock, hit a slingshot suplex for a near fall, and then dropped Hechilles with SAM'S ATOMIC DROP for the win!
In such a short tournament, the first win is so crucial and Sam scores big.
Is Hechilles maybe distracted as a tag team champion? Rumor has it that the Estorians are taunting him into a title match on the next card, in spite of having to pull double duty. Will he take them up on it?
- Filsinger Cup Block B - Moonstrike vs. Mighty Grogan Mighty Grogan defeated Moonstrike with an UPPER CRUSH at 23:48 Match Rating: 4.25 Match Notes: Mighty Grogan wants a title shot. Some say he's earned it already, but others note that he's not faced Morpheus, Torin Caelum, or K.O. Keller yet. So while he's beaten a lot of other folks, he's not quite earned it. He's vowed to win the F-Cup to put all doubts to rest and secure a title shot in his rookie year.
Moonstrike is coming off a loss to Star Warrior (who some wanted to see in this tournament) and Paladin Power has struggled in the past year, but they're still in no danger of being recognized as the greatest tag team in GWF history. Would this be a chance for him to snag some singles glory?
Whatever it was, it was a great match! While Grogan had control of the majority of the bout, there was little doubt that Moonstrike was within striking distance.
They jockeyed early on with some chain wrestling and it looked like it was anybody's game, but a big spinebuster from Grogan made the difference.
It was short-lived as things spilled outside and Moonstrike to the opportunity to hit the Titan Drop on the outside!
Grogan rallied back, tho! Moonstrike was able to fight off the UPPER CRUSH. After another near fall, Moonstrike turned to his old POW ways on the outside and smashed Grogan into the table. The ref warned him, but the damage was done and Moonstrike began to build some steam.
Grogan was in trouble, but Moonstrike was still feeling the effects of Grogan's offense from earlier.
The pivotal moment of the match came when Moonstrike hit a huge tope suicida on the outside, but he was the one that came up bloody! It looked like he'd cracked his head on the guardrail!
He continued, though, and was able to keep up some offense. However, Grogan came back with a Russian sickle out of no where and re-established dominance.
Grogan even went up top a couple of times. A rare occurrence. It was hard to tell if he was getting cocky or just having trouble with the bloodied Moonstrike's resilience.
Another near fall shocked the crowd as most thought it had to be over including Grogan.
Finally he followed a skull crushing DDT up with his finisher to get the victory!
- Filsinger Cup Block B - Morpheus vs. Ricken Prince Morpheus defeated Ricken Prince with a lariat at 11:10 Match Rating: 3.75 Match Notes: Even though Morpheus was told he'd be getting no more title shots, he somehow made his way into the F-Cup. This could realistically be his last chance to reclaim the gold he held for so short a time.
Ricken Prince, in spite of his rule-breaking ways, still has some quality wins... and money... Not to speculate, but who knows how he got into the tournament...
This was a hard-hitting brawl that see-sawed back and forth all the way.
Prince fought of TRIP TO HADES early and after Morpheus took some liberties outside and got away with it, Prince took advantage on the inside and scored with BOW TO THE PRINCE! He got away with it and got a 2 count.
Prince was feeling good, but Morpheus kicked out of a ROYAL DECREE and Prince took a risk up top that hit, but not as big as he'd hoped!
Morpheus was able to come back huge and hit another TRIP TO HADES, but Ricken Prince kicked out!
Morpheus began unloading with the big bombs in his offense, but Prince wouldn't stay down for long.
He hit some big bombs of his own and whipped Morpheus into the turnbuckle...
Morpheus explodes out with a neck-breaking lariat!
1, 2, 3!
An explosive finish to a near classic power brawl.
Morpheus is off to a much better start than last year, for sure.
- Filsinger Cup Block A - Torin Caelum vs. K.O. Keller Torin Caelum defeated K.O. Keller with CAELUM'S GRIP in 13:52 Match Rating: 3.75 Match Notes: These two might have the best rivalry in GWF history. Second maybe to Morpheus and Omega.
They've fought in some of the biggest matches for the richest prizes and this would give the winner a big shot at bragging rights.
Caelum came out strong, but Keller retaliated as they see-sawed for control.
Caelum began working the leg joints, though, and applied the Torin Death Lock! He would even pull out the moonsault, which we haven't seen in a while, for a near fall.
Keller was able to mount a comeback, though!
He would use the Boston Crab and Keller's Flying Knee to score a near fall of his own.
Caelum, ever the opportunist, capitalized on an error and hit a big shoulder breaker, perhaps softening Keller up for the Caelum Death Grip.
Keller had no problem fighting dirty on the outside, however, and was able to take the advantage back his way.
He hit a chicken wing suplex to score another near fall.
Caelum, though hit a shoulder breaker out of no where and then used CAELUM'S GRIP right away to score the submission!
What a win!
No doubt, rumors will start up saying Keller is beat up after a tough year in the squared circle after giving up the submission.
Of course, things are far from over, but Caelum has to feel good after this win. The question has to be asked, though, if he's simply fighting for the F-Cup for glory and not a title shot, what will happen should he win? He's already said he's hanging it up after the tournament is over...
Meantime, Keller is by no mean's out of this. Can he rally back for another winning run at the F-Cup?
- POW Rules - The Windriders vs. Defiance Jammer defeated Tano with a lariat at 2:35 Match Rating: 0.10 Match Notes: This was not the return the Windriders or the fans wanted.
Blood punished Tano in the opening moments and made a quick tag to Jammer, newly returned from suspension. He briefly taunted Rama, the cause for his absence and then laid out Tano with some punishing lariats.
He went for a cover and as Rama attempted to make a save, Blood pulled him off the apron, having run around the ringside area to grab him.
Jammer rubbed Tano's face in the mat as Blood layer into Rama with kicks.
Defiance left the Windriders laying, but there's little doubt, it's their pride hurting more than their bodies.
Rama, returning from injury, never even got into the match. Afterwards he had some choice words that had to be censored by our production team. Needless to say, it doesn't seem that this one is over quite yet...
Overall Card Rating: 2.70

Ouch! Rough return to action for the Windriders... Rama looked particularly upset and I've gotta wonder if some of his frustration may wind up being directed at his own tag partner... Should be interesting to see how he and Tano fare the next time they step into a ring... Thoroughly enjoyed that exciting conflict between Moonstrike and Grogan... Probably would've got FIVE STARS if it had taken place at the Tokyo Dome! Great win for Caelum as well... Really fun show!

Nice win by Caelum. Too bad the Wind Riders didn't last longer.

Keller vs Caelum is always a classic!
Hmm, I believe I might have to a flashback segment of EC in my 2088 fed, having a spotlighted match of my choosing just to get back into playing! π€ππ
Thanks for the inspiration TigerSamurai! π

Thanks for the comments Pariah, TTX, & Justin Case! Appreciate you following along. I don't think I've kept it any secret, but Torin Caelum is my favorite of the classics years. He feels more real to me and his moveset is so great. It's easy to picture him working holds, softening his opponent up for big moves, and then locking in the submission to finish them off. He and Keller are the rivalry of the first 6 years, no doubt. I was glad to see him get the win. The Windriders losing wasn't a big deal, but how they lost... Certainly required me to go back and tweak some of the story I wanted for them going forward. They're still one of my favorite teams and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next. Grogan/Moonstrike was such a war! I honestly thought it was going to be a draw, but I'm happy with Grogan's win. If he can keep his momentum, I can see him winning his block, no problem. Thanks again!

Not super familiar w Early Classics, but the support for it still all these years later is really impressive. Similar to 2087, you still see these feds popping up and running strong. Really remarkable.
Nice to see Torin Caelum is your favorite Classics character. Never got a chance to use him myself. That makes reading these feds even more interesting.
