Ted DiBiase wins via disqualification
Good match but the finish was disappointing. One of the favourites goes out in the first round opening up the top half of the draw significantly.

Randy Savage wins by count-out
What a war! There were points where I hoped Brody would get an offensive run but he just never was able to get Savage in a position where he could inflict prolonged level three offense. Brody is out and what is left of Savage moves onto the next round.

Another intense encounter and we get our first clean finish of the night. Mr. Monday Night fails to capitalize on his opportunities, which allows Race back into the match and complete a comeback for the win.

Buddy Rogers wins via submission with a Figure Four Grapevine
Brazil had 90% of the match but Rogers just kept finding a way to hang on. In particular, Rogers was able to avoid being counted out on several occasions [thanks in part to Morgan Dollar card modification from the pre-match roll of 9]. Satisfying match and I liked how the Morgan Dollar card was a factor in the contest.

Gorgeous George wins via submission with a Gorgeous Grip [snake eyes]
Enjoyed this one. The contrasting dynamics of the two characters made for an interesting bout and the snake eyes finish may have come out of nowhere but seemed a fitting end to a match that was meant to a break from the intensity of the title tournament matches.
Curt Hennig v. Jimmy Snuka
Hennig is all over the fans before the bell. Snuka with headlocks and headbutts. Dropkicks connect and Hennig gets whipped into the corner where he eats a kick from Snuka. Powerslam and Hennig takes a powder. Snuka comes after his opponent for a couple of head butts sending the match back into the ring. Another power slam sends Hennig back to the floor. Snuka is back outside but Hennig is ready this time with some forearms and whip into the rails. Snuka gets rolled back into the ring, stunned. Hennig hooks Snuka . . .
Curt Hennig wins with a Henning Plex.
A short one with Hennig breaking through only once but it was enough for the win. On a personal note, I had the honour of watching these two square off back in the early 90’s. Snuka may have been past his prime and Hennig was just coming into his but the match was a lot of fun. Hennig was a heat machine with his stalling tactics and in the ends Snuka put over the rising star.
Canadian Heavyweight Championship Tournament – Semi Finals

Race counters and attacks with a falling knee drop and Indian Death Lock that has Rogers in trouble. Backbreaker sets up a pair of falling knees. Rogers gets the knees up to block a charge in the corner but his whip into the ropes is ill advised when Race counters a backdrop with a piledriver. Race then crusher Rogers with a SECOND PILEDRIVER for a huge near fall. Backbreaker does some damage but Rogers counters a belly to belly attempt and nails a piledriver of his own. Rogers with a hard punch and sends Race into the ropes. Race rebounds…
Harley Race wins with an inside cradle
Hard not to envision the classic encounters between Race and Flair from the early 80’s each time these to collide. Unfortunately, this one ended rather quickly with Rogers never really being able to get anything going. I would imagine this will be the first of several encounters between these two competitors.
Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) v. Foreign Legion (Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff) w/Shawn Daivari
When Volkoff sings, fans boo. Sheik has a few choice words for ringside and the heat is off the charts. Morgan Dollar has some stern words for both sides. Hawk and Animal clean house. Doomsday Device. Davari is on the apron for the distraction. He eats a forearm and flies to the floor. Animal tosses Volkoff to the floor. The fans are on their feet. Volkoff crawls back inside and Animal mounts the corner. . .
Road Warriors win when Animal pins Volkoff with a cross body deathjump while Hawk blocks Sheik.
Disappointing that this match was not more competitive as the Legion were just sandbags tonight getting tossed around by the LOD. Was hoping for more.

Race works the lumbar with backbreakers, whips to the corner and a back suplex. We end up back on the floor after another running lariat from Race and the punches fly. Vicious headbutt from Race opens up both men. Race tosses a loopy Savage back into the ring, traps him . . .
Harley Race beats Randy Savage with a piledriver to claim the Canadian Heavyweight Title
Race shows his toughness and grit to out brawl the Macho Man in the finals. Race kept Savage close most of the match not allowing him the space to use his agility to his advantage.
