Bryan Danielson defeated Masked Superstar and Big Daddy Dink via pinfall.
Dink came to the ring wearing a massive tee shirt that proclaimed him as “Undefeated”. In the last couple of weeks, Dink had been responsible, either directly or indirectly, for the only loses the American Dragon had suffered since debuting in the Association. This match was a second chance for Danielson to get a little payback. Of course, when the match actually started, Dink wanted no part of it. His masked man and the Dragon grappled a great bout, and Danielson had Masked Superstar in trouble early. Dink provided a vital distraction that allowed Masked Superstar to take control. After Superstar had worn down Danielson and had him on the ropes, Dink suddenly found his courage and tagged in. Though Dink maintained the upper hand briefly, even hitting Danielson with the brass knuckles that earned him a victory last week, Bryan Danielson quickly turned the tables on Dink, and put a whooping on the manager, much to the delight of the fans. Danielson knocked Dink out with a combination of MMA style knees and elbows, then drop kicked Masked Superstar off the ring apron and got the cover and some revenge on Dink by getting the win. After the match, Dink was carried out of the arena on a stretcher.
Wrestling World Cup Team America Qualifying Match
Rob Van Dam defeated Virgil via pinfall.
They call Virgil the King of the Upsets, but he never got a chance to put one together this time. RVD came in on fire and totally outclassed the bodyguard, putting him away quickly and securing himself a spot on Team America in the Wrestling World Cup.
Wrestling World Cup Team America Qualifying Match
Ted DiBiase defeated ”Hacksaw” Jim Duggan via pinfall.
There maybe no Association Superstar more patriotic then Hacksaw Jim Duggan who was determined to earn the chance to represent his country in the Wrestling World Cup. He came into this match on fire and was beating DiBiase like a rented mule, but Duggan hadn’t counted on one thing: referee Bill Alfonso. Alfonso made several painfully slow counts when Duggan had DiBiase down. Eventually, Duggan had had enough, and confronted Alfonso. This allowed DiBiase to roll up Duggan from behind. Alfonso made an extremely fast count, and awarded DiBiase the final spot on Team America. After the match, Duggan retrieved his 2x4 and chased DiBiase and Alfonso from the ring.
Iron Sheik defeated One Man Gang via submission.
One Man Gang continues to struggle. After falling victim to the mat skills of John Pesek last week, Gang again floundered against the former AAU champion Iron Sheik. Though Gang was winning the match when it was a brawl, once Sheik got him off his feet, Gang was seemingly as helpless as an overturned turtle. Sheik softened up the big man with several shots from his allegedly loaded boot before locking in the Camel Clutch for the win.
The James Gang defeated The Sheepherders via pinfall.
Perhaps it was anger at the on going situation with Brad Armstrong, or maybe it was feeling slighted for not being included in the #1 contenders match later tonight, but the James Gang came to Arlington with a simple mission: Destroy the Sheepherders. And that they did. Kip pinned Luke Williams after a standing legdrop in less then a minute.
”Exotic” Adrian Street defeated D’Lo Brown via pinfall.
D’Lo Brown won the first meeting between these two, two weeks ago. In that meeting, he battled back after being in trouble early and got the hard fought win. This match was an almost mirror image of that first encounter. D’Lo started out strong, hitting his running powerbomb for a near fall early. But Street battled back, and used is Daffodil pinning combination to get the win. With the series between these two tied now, expect a rubber match in the near future.
”The Natural” Brad Armstrong (with Bob Orton Sr.) defeated The Mountie (with Bob Armstrong via pinfall.
It was announced earlier this week that the winner of this match would get a shot at the Bob Armstrong’s newly won Heritage title. Despite this, Bob Armstrong was in the corner of The Mountie as he battled his former partner and Bob’s estranged son, “The Natural” Brad Armstrong. Seemingly to balance the scales, Brad Armstrong came to the ring surprisingly accompanied by Bob Orton Sr. Though the two grapplers were evenly matched, The Mountie eventually battled back and seemed to have the match won after hitting the short choke slam. That’s when Bob Orton Sr. attacked Bob Armstrong at ringside. With the referee and The Mountie distracted by the brawling Bobs at ringside, The Natural was able to recover and nailed The Mountie from behind with a low blow, which the referee didn’t see, and then connected with his Russian Leg Sweep for the win. After the match, Brad joined the fracas outside the ring, and aided Bob Orton Sr. in delivering a spiked pile-driver to Bob Armstrong on the concrete! Brad then took the house microphone and taunted the downed Heritage champion. He repeated his often made claim that his father had taught him to win at all costs, but then clarified that when he said that, he didn’t mean Bob Armstrong, whom he repeatedly called “Mr. James”, but rather he meant his REAL father: Bob Orton Sr! The duo of Brad and Orton then embraced before continuing the assault on Armstrong. The Mountie recovered and, using his shock stick, chased off Orton and his alleged son before any more damage could be done to Bob Armstrong, but no one is sure what to make of this situation.
4-Team Elimination Match
The Heavenly Bodies (with Johnny Fairplay) defeated Paul London & Brian Kendrick, Ray Stevens & Les Thatcher, and The Love Brothers to earn a title shot.
With the first shot at The Miracle Violence Connection’s tag team gold at stake, these four teams pulled out all the stops. The first elimination came early when Ray Stevens pinned Paul London after a bombs away. It was then that Johnny Fairplay’s strategy for this match became clear: keep his men out of it. Thatcher & Stevens and The Love Brothers, who have a long standing rivalry, battled it out while The Bodies relaxed on the ring apron. With both of the other teams looking rough, the Bodies pounced. “Sweet” Stan Lane made a blind tag on Hartford Love, then made quick work of an exhausted Stevens, putting him away with a rocket launcher. The Love Brothers then put up a good fight, and perhaps if Big Daddy Dink had been at ringside it would have been different, but the Bodies were to fresh, and Lane used a superkick to put away Reginald and secure a title shot for The Heavenly Bodies.
Main Event
The Destroyer & ”Superfly” Jimmy Snuka defeated Killer Kowalski & Executioner #2 by pinfall.
This one had it all. Power vs Speed, Champion vs. Challenger, and a man looking for some vengeance. In the first in ring encounter between Heavyweight Champion Killer Kowalski and the man who will next challenge him for the title, The Destroyer, Kowalski did everything he could to try and soften up his challenger. But no matter what Kowalski threw at The Destroyer, the masked man kept battling back. The Destroyer even escaped the dreaded Kowalski Klaw, a feat few have accomplished! Frustrated, Kowalski tagged in his own masked man, Executioner #2. But the big man had no better luck putting away the sensational masked man. When The Destroyer was able to make the tag to Snuka, everything changed. Snuka took it right to the big man, and never looked back. After chopping the Executioner down, Snuka took to the air with death defying superfly leap! Kowalski made the save from what would surely have been a three count, but Snuka was undaunted. He climbed the ropes again and connected with a second consecutive Superfly Leap! Again Kowalski made the save, but as he went to leave the ring, his hit by The Destroyer. The masked man locked in his intelligent Sleeper on Kowalski, and with the partner neutralized, Snuka connected with the superfly leap for the THIRD TIME! The big man barely moved, much less kicked out as the referee made the three count.
* The road to the Wrestling World Cup as we head into the Bill in Arkadelphia Arkansas. We’ll have 4 preview matches, featuring members of all 8 World Cup teams.
* The bizarre situation involving the Armstrong family (and now the Orton family as well) will continue to play out when The Mountie teams up with The James Gang to battle Bob Orton Sr. and The Sheepherders.
* One half of the Tag Team Champions, Terry “Bam-Bam” Gordy will face off against one half of the team set to challenge them for the titles, Doctor of Love Tom Pritchard of the Heavenly Bodies. Johnny Fairplay, the Bodies ferret of a manager, will certainly be at ringside.
